How can a French tutor help you?

French is a romantic and beautiful language, but it is also very useful and practical to learn. The language is the fifth-most spoken one in the world, and it is the only language spoken on all of the populated continents. It is also the second-most taught language after English, and there were 125 million people learning French in 2014. Now, you have joined this number and are probably experiencing the hardships of acquiring a new language. It is often difficult to motivate yourself to learn independently, and falling behind in a classroom full of people is all too common. Varsity Tutors understands your desire to learn as effectively as possible, and we may help you make your French study sessions more productive by finding you a tutor in Denver, CO.

Session Summaries by French Tutors

French Tutoring review by Barzin in Denver, CO
We went over some articles and made sure to discuss them as we read through. I gave the student some grammar worksheet to work on for our next meeting. His writing is a lot better than his speaking. I understand his written work very well and only had to correct a few mistakes. He often retrieves words from the text to complete his sentences. This will help him a lot during the exam.

Today we went over the rest of the grammar concepts in Lesson 4 and worked through most of the exercises. We stopped a bit short to make sure to have plenty of information to go over next time before the test, which will take place during the following meeting. She is making great progress, and we will continue working with possessive adjectives and forming questions next time.

The student and I read the first half of Guy de Maupassant's "Deux Amis," a short story that her class will be reading this week. We read aloud, discussed vocabulary, and made sure that she understood all of the writing, which was at times very abstract and complex. Altogether a good last session.

French Tutoring review by Anna in Denver, CO
The student has definitely been practicing! We reviewed the alphabet, numbers, and some other vocabulary we talked about last time, and she showed me how she has learned shapes and colors in the meantime. Then we went on to verb charts, why they're important, and that she should make them until she's memorized them. We reviewed some basic pronouns, put them into verb charts to reinforce which correspond to which English pronouns, and started conjugating! We reviewed present tense conjugations she previously learned for "avoir" and "aller". And then we reviewed those some more in different ways. Next time, I think we need to spend some time learning the present tense conjugations of "etre" because, irregular as it is, it's such a useful verb ("to be").

French Tutoring review by Tina in Denver, CO
Today we covered vocabulary and specific questions regarding date and time, including days of the week and months. To practice, we used a calendar and identified days, dates, and months. The student continues to impress me with her pronunciation. I left her with more copies for practice and will be working on creating crossword puzzles to help her practice vocabulary and spelling.
