Every class they take may require writing, even math, where they may need to write up word problems. Whether your child is struggling in their writing course, or they are excelling and need some enrichment, a private tutor is a wise investment in your child's future. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors may help you connect with a writing tutor in Denver, CO.

All of the writing tutors that Varsity Tutors may connect you with in Denver, CO, are skilled in teaching the concepts of the discipline. They have taken advanced writing courses, and are also good at teaching skills. Your child's tutor may be chosen based on their needs and skills, their level of current ability, their learning style, and even their personality. The lessons may also be individualized. Your child's tutor may assess their needs, and as your child needs help in certain areas, that is what their tutor may teach them. Unlike in a classroom setting, your child's tutor is available to answer their questions on the spot, and point out possible improvements as they write instead of days or weeks later. Writing Tutoring review by Andrew in Denver, CO
Today the student and I reviewed the prompt for his life lesson essay. We began with important influences and events in his life, discussing stories and examples set by his grandfather. From there, we worked backwards to develop a thesis for his paper and began brainstorming possible areas to focus on for research. We then talked about research techniques, and finished by outlining the paper in order to guide his research.

Writing Tutoring review by Alyssa in Denver, CO
As part of the student's poetry unit, his teacher assigned a reading comprehension packet based on Henry David Thoreau's railroad poem. We read through it together and he wrote a nice response. Next I had him write a narrative about technology, and even though he stubbornly refused to do it at first, he ended up producing a well-written story. Though there are still a lot of issues with mechanics, organization, and grammar, it's leaps and bounds better than where we started out.

Writing Tutoring review by Carolyn in Denver, CO
Today the student and I went over his reading assignment in Lord of the Flies. We discussed the literary terms that we went over previously. We went through his vocabulary assignment and checked his sentences. Then we went over his writing assignment, correcting spelling, grammar, and mechanics. Then we reviewed conjunctions, and discussed proper 'a' and 'an' usage. We discussed his progress, and made a list of things to mind when doing his next writing assignment.

Writing Tutoring review by Sally in Denver, CO
We did this session in two chunks, so that I could work with each boy individually. With both boys, we covered the lower-case cursive letters a, d, g, q, and o. Student A did very well at self-correcting and managed to consistently maintain a better pencil grip, although it is obviously still not natural feeling. He tends to write large and has difficulty making his letters even and consistent. We worked at a variety of sizes of lettering, and I did see some improvement over the session. He did very well at analyzing what was good and bad about his own writing. Student B uses a very tight grip and seemed less enthusiastic for our lesson this time. He does well with following stroke order and forming the letter well, but has difficulty keeping his letters consistent sizes and on the lines.

Writing Tutoring review by Ted in Denver, CO
The student and I spent the first half the session studying for his social studies exam. We played bingo and made flashcards for the important people, places, and documents he learned about. Then we switched to report writing. We reviewed the proper way to outline and organize a topic before setting out to write. We applied this strategy to an essay he wrote on Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.
