Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

We've helped thousands of learners of all ages improve their reading and English skills including teaching English as a second language.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Kristyn in Denver, CO
The student completed all her extra practice from last week. Math: We worked through 10 more difficult questions together. We also reviewed quadratic equations and factoring and log/exponential equation transformations. Reading: She worked through a social science passage. She did well with critical reading, identifying the author's opinion, paragraph main ideas, and passage structure. This passage was not timed, but she was able to answer 9/10 questions correctly. Science: She worked through 3 science passages. We reviewed different ways a passage may ask the student to use a given equation, relationships between given equations and data (tables), and a few chemistry concepts (different labels for pressure, equipment setup, etc.). English: She worked through 2 passages. We reviewed a number of different uses for commas, including use with prepositional phrases, dates, 'and', and non-necessary to sentence integrity information. We also worked with possessives (its vs it's) and who vs whom. She has 1 English, 1 reading, 2 science, and 15 math questions to work through for extra practice.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Sean in Denver, CO
We began by going through a few science passages to brush up on our data interpretation. The student only erred on a few problems, and they were usually just due to tiny slip-ups rather than any misconception of the problem as a whole. As he practices on his own, he'll get used to the specific wording of problems and how they are designed to trip students up. Continuing on, we went through several passages of English to keep on top of grammar/rhetoric, and the student did great here. We wrapped up with some difficult math problems and concepts (circumscribed circles, averages, direct variation, and ordering), and after practicing through several problems, the student had a much stronger handle of these topics by the end. I will send over some additional practice for the student over the week.

We covered critical reading, analyzing scientific charts and data, English grammatical structure, and concepts from geometry, algebra, and trigonometry. He is a bright student.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Brad in Denver, CO
Today's session went very well. We spent the majority of the session discussing the student's essay, her questions on English, and a math practice section. She is continuing to demonstrate improvement in all areas, and I look forward to looking over her one-half of a practice test I assigned for her next session!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Ian in Denver, CO
This session we finished reviewing the practice test that the student took. She did exceptionally well on the Math and Science sections, as expected. English was the weakest section for her this time around (Reading was her weakest subject on the first practice test she took) so we spent the rest of the session going over practice English problems. One of the issues that she is having is choosing between 2-3 answer choices in which they all seem correct and that come down to a subjective choice. I tried to emphasize this session that there will never be a subjective choice, so if it seems like that is all that separates the answer choices then we are probably missing a key detail in the question or a subtle grammatical difference. We looked at a few different ways to work through questions in which this happens.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Nikolaj in Denver, CO
Today, we did English flashcards to begin with. The student was getting a good number of questions right. We switched to Math after about an hour, focusing on trig. He seemed to be in a good place with most of the knowledge, but needed some help applying it, so as we went through the problems I tried to help him break down the problem into smaller chunks by just focusing on what he needed to find to solve the problem, and then what he needed to find to get to that first thing.
