Tutoring review by Joe in Littleton, CO
The student's considerable intelligence is matched by his attentiveness and cordiality. He also has an uncommonly high tolerance for studying. Amazingly, after we had studied for over an hour, he asked if we could study a little more!!! My jaw nearly hit the floor, for this is highly unusual. The only thing he seems to lack is confidence, which eludes many students his age. I explained that from age 13-20 I, too, suffered from various forms of insecurity, but I bounced back. So, I'm hoping my confidence will show him that it's OK-- and even commendable-- to be academically assertive and proud of one's intellectual prowess. I might also try to impress upon him the need for balance when enjoying leisure time. In other words, more reading and less video gaming.

Tutoring review by Kiel in Littleton, CO
This initial session served two main purposes, an analysis of the student's academic relationship with English/Writing and a more casual tone of reviewing his current texts and assignments requiring writing. The student then established goals based on our current understanding and evidence of his strengths and weaknesses in communicating his ideas to paper. Notably, the goals set included improving his spelling and word usage, organization of ideas and conventions when writing, and to be able to apply principles and ideas from our sessions to both schoolwork as well as standardized testing.

We continued working on packet 2B, which covered the following: the conjugation of the preterite tense of a regular verb (such as "mirar," "aprender," "escribir"), phrases and vocabulary used in clothing purchases and general forms of payment, and reflexive verbs. We also made flashcards in preparation of the student's test next Wednesday.
