Session Summaries by Languages Tutors

Languages Tutoring review by Barzin in Denver, CO
Great session! I had asked the student to read over a few articles and send a response to me by email. During our session, we went over his writing and I tried to emphasis the sections that needed correction. Re-reading these sections out loud gave him a better idea of how the actual sentences sounds. Often he would realize that there was something wrong and he would rewrite the whole sentence in a different way, sometimes even changing the whole meaning of it using the words that he already knows. This is great exercise because it will help him proof read his work while taking the exam and rely on his own feeling towards his work. We also went over some grammar sheets and read another article. I asked him questions and he wrote his answers down. Tomorrow is our last session before the exam!

We also began reading through the Lecture section at the end of Lesson 4 and we will finish it next time. Next Sunday she will also have a test on Lesson 4.

Languages Tutoring review by Nora in Denver, CO
This was the student's first session. We started by talking about her biggest areas of concern with respect to French and she expressed that she struggles with some of the structures as well as with putting the structures and vocabulary in context. With that in mind, we reviewed the tenses that her French class is working on. She expressed confusion about how to tell which helping verbs to use with the past tense, so I introduced her to a verb list and we talked about the theme that links the verbs in it. We also examined the sequence of tenses and finally took a break to work on the pronunciation of some of the more difficult sounds in French.

Continued work on practicing speaking. Found that translation exercises will help the student build vocabulary. Reviewed Imperatuf, object pronoun replacement, future poche and touched on future verb tenses.

For this session, we went over the list of make-up assignments his teacher had emailed, and made sure that he was getting caught up. The student said he'd already done the vocab quiz and turned in some pages from his cahier d'exercises, so he did the last remaining bit of make-up work in the cahier. He also finished the written part of his oral presentation: choose a French dessert, simplify the recipe, and translate the recipe into French. He chose chocolate mousse as his dessert.

Languages Tutoring review by M. Nadjib in Denver, CO
This was our first session. the student is an adult learner interested in developing her French speaking skills while putting less emphasis on grammar. We started by working on various simple expressions including greetings, asking for directions, introducing oneself and others, and asking and telling the time. Since she also speaks Italian, the student can make connections between the two languages making it easier for her to learn and remember new expressions.
