Session Summaries by Anatomy Tutors

Anatomy Tutoring review by Manuel in Taylorsville, UT
This was the penultimate session with the student, and it was a string of three straight sessions this week leading up to her math final on Thursday. Each day she made significant progress and has been gaining substantial mastery of the material to the point it makes me feel as though she will do very well on that exam.

Anatomy Tutoring review by Rebecca Michelle in Taylorsville, UT
The student and I met to review for his final exam in chemistry that's happening next week. We completed 16 practice problems that were released from an earlier version of the exam and reviewed concepts such as phase diagrams and Le Chatelier's principle. We then reviewed common stoichiometry problems and nuclear chemistry problems including solution stoichiometry, limiting/excess reactant, finding quantities of reactants and products, half-life, and nuclear decay. The student suggested that we review stoichiometry because he felt he was forgetting some of the material from that unit and wanted to refresh, which I found to be very insightful and demonstrated good study habits. We will meet again on Saturday to continue the review.

Anatomy Tutoring review by Brian in Taylorsville, UT
We are reviewing a worksheet that covers math for chemistry. We covered topics of accuracy vs. precision of measurement, significant figures, certainty of measurement, rounding, and scientific notation. We started conversions in metric and learning the prefixes and what they mean. We also covered how to put scientific notation into the calculator and how to do basic math operations. Homework for tomorrow is the problems on page 29 of packet (1-8). Two actions for mom are 1. Contact teacher from school and ask about even pages of packet and what is the recommended calculator. 2. Buy a TI30 basic scientific calculator.

Anatomy Tutoring review by Noah in Taylorsville, UT
In this session, the student and I went over some electrochemistry in the form of his project for his presentation. He, with the help of his mother and I, was able to connect four lemon-batteries made with zinc nails and copper pennies together to power a 1.7 V LED light. During the time, he was able to get an understanding of how the electrical circuit worked and what the main components of it were. In addition, he was able to reiterate how the electrical current flowed from the zinc to the copper with the lemon juice as an electrolyte to balance the flow and the wires used as conductors to connect the circuit and make it complete. Leaving the session, I am super impressed by his progress as of late, and have no doubts he will succeed in his presentation.

Anatomy Tutoring review by Joel in Taylorsville, UT
The student is trying to get ahead of the curve on AP Physics 2. I taught her all of thermodynamics (P-V diagrams, work, processes, the first law), then we looked at last year's AP Physics 2's thermodynamics question.

Anatomy Tutoring review by Jamie in Taylorsville, UT
We covered the syllabus for the course and the first class the student had earlier that day. Concepts covered were basic chemistry concepts used in biology, such as functional groups, isomers, electron configuration, and bonding. He seemed to struggle with memorization and studying skills, so I intend to teach a few of those throughout our future sessions. He seemed to understand most of the concepts and remember most of the material after a reviewing it at the end of the session. I included different strategies to help him remember certain functioning groups.
