English Tutoring review by Elsa in Taylorsville, UT
In today's session, we utilized the text Market Leader Advanced. We focused on vocabulary via listening exercises, class discussions about project management, and working in teams. Since progress reports were sent out today, we wrapped up the session with a discussion of the progress that the two students have made so far, which was a positive review of the effort and advancement made by both.

English Tutoring review by Carol in Taylorsville, UT
The student got 100% on her irregular verbs quiz. She is also showing continual improvement in reading comprehension and fluency. She is also doing well with inserting the correct "be" verb into sentences. I am very pleased with her progress; we will move on to new levels.

The student and I had another lovely session tonight. We reviewed the ample material that she'd written to conclude Chapters Two and Three, all of which was strong, and we then spent some time introducing a newer character, Sophie. Her character sketch was, as usual, vivid and entertaining to read. We also discussed some of the challenges of presenting background/setting information in Chapter Four, and she came up with a good plan to keep that section compelling to her audience. I'm continuing to review grammar and use of details with her as she writes, and I'm definitely seeing some improvements in her comma usage already. For next week, she's going to type some of her old notes in addition to continuing work on Chapter Four, and I'm going to email her dad with a few summer reading recommendations. A successful week indeed!

English Tutoring review by Shannon in Taylorsville, UT
The student and I worked on his Spanish homework, which was simple future tense and future tense. We looked at regular verbs and irregular verbs. He has a good handle on this. Then he told me that his math teacher is giving review tests; the first one was today, and he guessed on most of the answers. Most of the questions he did not know were on quadratic equations and factoring. So we spent about a half hour on factoring and the quadratic formula and completing the square. Then he said a couple of questions were on the Pythagorean theorem. So we did a bunch of questions on that and discussed how he would use the formula. Then we started Earth Science, because he had an assignment on eccentricity. I explained that eccentricity is the oval-ness of the orbit's oval shape, and we completed the packet together. We went over how to calculate the eccentricity based on the formula.

English Tutoring review by Billie in Taylorsville, UT
The student and I worked on reading level 1 and 2. He was able to finish a reading one book called Charlie the Ranch Dog: Snow Day with some help. He is a great kid and very easy to work with. He needs to spend time reading for reinforcement of the basic skills: word identification and sounding out words. I left him with a reading Level 2 book that was Angry Birds with Star Wars. He was very excited to read that book.
