I love science because I love the thought process that goes into it. I currently work as a biology professor, and my favorite part of my job is helping students make connections with the class material. I spent one spring at a Quaker semester program in California. I was raised Quaker and as such many of the most important experiences in my life have been facilitated through Quaker programs. I was very lucky after High School (as we know college admittance is a crap shoot)to be accepted early decision to Wesleyan University, where I continued to pursue Theater as a playwright. In college I was a tutor for creative non-fiction classes. I also gained a lot of experience workshopping various written forms in group and one on one settings. I received a BA in English Literature from Wesleyan University, a small liberal arts college in Middletown, CT. After earning my degree last May, I moved to Pittsburgh in September to do a year of volunteer service work for a local nonprofit. I've been enjoying exploring my new city, and I've loved all the people I've met here. In true liberal arts fashion, I have taken courses across a diverse range of disciplines, earning a Certificate in International Relations for completing courses across the government, history, economics, Spanish, and religion departments. While in college I worked as a tutor and teaching assistant for first year chemistry, holding weekly sessions where I went over homework and tests. After college I worked for two years at an after-school enrichment program where I again tutored and taught classes in chemistry, math, as well as SAT and ACT prep courses. I have always enjoyed teaching in one form or another, whether it be for academic subjects, music lessons, drawing or martial arts.
