Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Tom in Lakewood, CA
Today the student wanted to review intensity, its definition, and how it relates to energy, power, and decibels. Then we went over standing waves and harmonics. We started with strings and then moved to open and closed pipes. From there, we reviewed the Doppler effect by focusing on the distortion of waves and explaining the equation for frequency. The student is not taking the AP test, so his focus is now long-term. The final exam will be sometime in June.

The student is a very hard-working. We went over some circuit homework problems and a problem where he correctly identified the electron moving through the electric field was similar to gravity. We found acceleration by keeping x and y components separate and were then able to find the electric field. We also went over a few AP Multiple Choice questions. We will continue reviewing for the AP exam next time.

At this session, we reviewed genetics. Mainly, we focused on mono and dihybrid grosses. The student recently took a practice AP test in class and did well on it and we went through the couple that he got incorrect. We also reviewed types of inheritance patterns and ABO blood groups. He does well with Mendelian genetics if he stays organized and takes the time to set up the problem correctly. He also learned about nondisjunction. We then reviewed the topic of Evolution from last week and Genetics from today by completing practice problems. For our next session, we are going to review DNA and protein synthesis and he will read this chapter in the book. He had a fantastic attitude and worked diligently the entire session!

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Yunsoo in Lakewood, CA
We covered concepts from genetics and ecology. We worked on a genetics worksheet which led us to talking about how to calculate probabilities without drawing the Punnett square. We also talked about how to calculate probabilities for more than one gene. By the end, she understood how picking each allele was a 50% probability and that by multiplying the probabilities, one could calculate the probability of any particular genotype. We also went over how to calculate populations using the exponential and logistic models for her quiz tomorrow.
