Tutoring review by Avni in Signal Hill, CA
Today the student and I focused on the math portion in a general overview of common concepts that appear on the exam. He already seems to be very comfortable with the material! We sped through many of the easier problems, and even some of the harder ones weren't difficult for him. We took extra time to talk over some of the problems that have a trick to them or a little bit of strategy involved, but he picked up on those very quickly after I explained them. We decided next session to continue with math, but focus on the reading comprehension and writing section as well. I think we'll make a chart of useful Latin roots to know, and we'll cover some math concepts he wanted a refresher in.

Tutoring review by Alana in Signal Hill, CA
Today we discussed the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, approximating areas with trapezoids, and approximating areas with trapezoids and rectangles of "non-uniform" base length. The student is doing very well during our sessions but not yet performing as well as she'd like on quizzes. To improve her testing skills, we are discussing how to memorize the trigonometric derivatives and integrals that are on her formula sheet. I believe that she will do well on her quiz tomorrow if she can remember the formulas correctly and takes her time to decide what the question is really asking and what information she is given.

Tutoring review by John in Signal Hill, CA
The student is in his vacation week, but we wanted to keep rolling with our lessons so he stays sharp. We spent extra time on long division and by the end it was easy for him. We practiced our multiplication and division facts for his next quiz. Then we went over some difficult geometry and percent problems so he can see what those types of problems look like and also to see what ideas come intuitively for him. He did very well with both, understanding that a straight line and a triangle both contain the equivalent of two ninety degree angles. He was able to deduce other things from this, such as what type of geometric figures could be formed inside a set of transversals. I think it was helpful that he took the time to come in on his vacation, especially so we would not lose our progress on long division.
