Session Summaries by Organic Chemistry Tutors

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Nicholas in Carson, CA
The student and I went over some FRQs from a practice AP test during tonight's session. She had some difficulties understanding why some of the answers were what they were. Most of this difficulty came from not correctly analyzing the situations presented as segmented intervals. We talked these through, and she was able to quickly correct herself, and did well on the rest of the questions we went over.

We went over acid/ base equilibria, discussed how to get Kb from Ka, and then did several problems involving calculating Ka, pH, pOH, etc. We then started on buffers. The student will send me specific questions and hopefully a scan of her last test.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Tim in Carson, CA
Today we covered torsion and angle of twist in circular rods. The student understood the concepts of the problems we covered. He had a positive attitude towards the materials we reviewed, and he was eager to learn. The strategies we went over included writing every step required to solve a problem as a habit for test preparation. Furthermore, we spent some time analyzing the meaning of a given problem statement in order to understand what the problem statement is asking for. We intend to schedule another session tomorrow as he had additional problems he would like to go over before his exam. In summary, this was a productive session as his confidence grew as we solved multiple problems covering the basics of torsion and angle of twist on circular shafts.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Mateusz in Carson, CA
The student recently began a new unit in her physics class revolving around work, power, and energy. She needed some help solidifying her knowledge of concepts. She was given a packet of practice problems based on newly learned information to prepare for her quiz on Friday and we worked through this packet together. She showed an aptitude for the concepts and was quick to grasp the point of examples and explanations when working through problems. Once we finished her packet, we worked through some additional practice problems from one of my old textbooks. When working on her own, she had a tendency to get ahead of herself, but when I displayed all the necessary information, she was quick to identify her mistakes and understand her errors. I encouraged her to work through some additional practice problems from her textbook in order for her quiz on Friday. We are scheduled to meet again on Monday.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Liam in Carson, CA
The student and I went over the basic forms of the Schrodinger equation and worked through the meaning for each part. We then solved the equation as a normal second order differential and talked about what the solutions mean. We covered the idea of an eigenvalue and how it relates to energy. Her professor had briefly covered the idea of tunneling, so I explained how the phenomenon acts, and we derived the solution for that as well. I will be sending her some helpful video explanations of the topics we didn't get to cover, and she will be visiting her professor tomorrow for more help.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Manuel in Carson, CA
The student and I are becoming comfortable with each other and the physics material. The goal is to get her math foundations 100% solid before talking about physics at all. She is very bright and so far has been able to make connections.
