How can a tutor assist you in conquering French?

French is spoken in many parts of the world, and it is the official language of France. If you learn the language, you may also be able to communicate with people in Monaco, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Quebec. French is a Romantic language, which has ties to other languages such as Spanish and Italian. Mastering a new language can be difficult, but with the help of a personal tutor, you can work through your coursework at a pace that is comfortable for you. Varsity Tutors can provide you access to educational directors, who can help you search for a French tutor in Long Island, New York.

French can be a tough language to learn because it uses genders, verb conjugation, and word pronunciations that have unfamiliar sounds to English speakers. While classroom learning can give you vocabulary lists and worksheets that focus on building your ability to recognize words, it may be difficult to learn to speak fluently in a classroom. A personal Long Island French tutor can work with you through your coursework to help you with your pronunciations and sentence flow. They can also help you with your verb conjugation homework. Having a knowledgeable tutor work with you through your course can be reassuring and a good way to build your confidence in the language. A tutor can give you the undivided attention that you can't get in a classroom setting.

French Tutoring review by Amanda in Long Island, NY
Today we covered vocabulary and reviewed old grammar. We are nearing the end of his spring semester and the end of Spanish II. He is doing well with vocabulary. We'll continue to work with grammar subjects like preterite vs imperfect, negative commands, and reflexive verbs. We practiced with some online activities via the website for the textbook. I wrote down some notes for him to study. No concerns.

French Tutoring review by Kenna in Long Island, NY
The session started off with the student completing his homework assignment, which was to find a web-site about soccer teams from South America. He had to write down recent matches with scores and team names as well as who scored goals. We spent the rest of the session practicing listening comprehension using a book on SAT II Spanish. He listened to a CD of dialogues in Spanish between people and had to answer questions that were asked about the dialogue. He did really well. I taught him several strategies of listening comprehension, and explained to him that one of the most important things that he can do during a test when completing a listening comprehension section is to take notes.

French Tutoring review by Luis in Long Island, NY
Student A: We reviewed the present, preterit, and present progressive tenses. We also went over some of the vocabulary required for the final test. Student B: We covered the preterit tense on irregular verbs. Student A and B: Both were asked questions about the assigned sitcom episode. Student A knows his tenses very well. His vocabulary is also very good. He just needs to be more confident and not doubt himself when speaking the language. He is doing a great job. He answered most of my questions about the sitcom correctly and with good descriptions. Student B learns how to conjugate very fast. He is a fast learner. I will continue to work with him on his vocabulary and pronunciation.

French Tutoring review by Sarah in Long Island, NY
We covered vocabulary that relates to restaurants, including place settings (fork, knife, plate, etc.) and the kind of greetings you would typically hear in a restaurant (I am your server, what would you like, check please, etc.). Both students practiced the vocabulary by pretending to be the waiter. For homework, I suggested that they write out a sample restaurant skit with the vocabulary they have.
