Focused on exponents and going over the practice test she just did...we're working on strategy and deciding which topics she ought to just guess on to optimize performance/maximize time.

GRE Tutoring review by Ijeoma in Long Island, NY
Today was our last session. We'd planned to do a mock test today but opted to focus on reviewing what the student had completed over the two weeks since our last session. We went over the data interpretation/probability review questions for which she'd still had questions regarding how they'd arrived at their answer. For the latter part of our session, we went over the practice test questions. Over the break, she had also completed Section 5 of Practice Test 1 under the timed conditions and scored herself. Together we went over the questions she answered incorrectly. In the last 5 minutes, we talked about what she could do to prep for the test, including taking it easy the day before the test.

GRE Tutoring review by Lynne in Long Island, NY
The student had taken a practice test, so we reviewed the quantitative sections of that test. We covered a variety of topics, including solving simultaneous equations and applied algebra. She learned the important rule that a third side of a triangle must be less than the sum but greater than the difference of the other two. We did some work in calculating average speed of a trip. We also did some work in removing variables from denominators in algebraic equations. She plans to do a few practice sets before we meet again tomorrow.

GRE Tutoring review by Darren in Long Island, NY
The student and I had a productive first session this morning. We started by going over the basic structure of the exam. Next, as her math skills are rustier than her verbal, we did a basic review of the math categories that she is likely to find on the test. Since it has been several years since she has used much math, I tried to assess which areas will need the most work during our sessions. We went over working with fractions, exponents, solving quadratics, basic geometry, slope-intercept form, percentages, working with rate-time-distance problems, and some basic statistics, in each case identifying counterintuitive or potentially tricky concepts. In addition, we briefly discussed some ways to study vocabulary. For tomorrow, she is going to take one or two math practice tests and we will review the problems that she struggled with.

GRE Tutoring review by Michael in Long Island, NY
The student and I used a review book to go through the sections covered in the quantitative reasoning portion of the GRE. We discussed a number of them in-depth, including linear equations, probability, geometry, fractions, decimals, percents, and statistics. We also went through a number of practice questions. She seemed to have a good base of knowledge, and I think with more practice and increased familiarity with the material, she should do well on the quantitative section. I told her to work on GRE practice tests.

GRE Tutoring review by Gerard in Long Island, NY
In this session, the student and I started by talking about what he has done so far regarding GRE prep. We developed a general study plan for his GRE in June and got to know each other a bit. He feels that he will need the most help with the verbal section, so we started by going through some practice problems. He has a good grasp on what the questions asked for. Next week, we will work on permutation/combination problems and probability, as well as some additional verbal review.
