College English Tutor • +17 Subjects
I am a graduate of Covenant College where I earned a B.A. in English & Music. Following graduation, I worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Georgia. Among other responsibilities while there, I tutored middle and high school students in English and writing as well as teachers in computer literacy and professional skills. After my service, I received an M.Mus. in Music Composition from Houghton College, where I tutored undergraduates in music theory and volunteered at a local high school where I tutored and mentored at-risk teens. I'm currently working on a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of the People, a global online education development initiative.I enjoy tutoring across the spectrum of subjects, though I get most excited about Literature, Writing, and developing an individual's capacity to learn. I seek to personalize each student's educational experience, as I believe that learning happens best when a student is engaged and takes ownership of her/his learning. My hobbies include writing music, writing words, travel, long walks, acquiring degrees, and helping people.

Algebra Tutor • +8 Subjects
Having graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, my favorite subjects to tutor are Algebra, Calculus and Physics. My general tutoring philosophy is based in first principles learning - I encourage the student to discover how and why something is the way it is through questions and suggestions. Since the appearance of COVID-19 and the stress it has caused on the average American classroom, I have had a desire to help students learn and grow through supplemental tutoring. Education, particularly in math and science, is incredibly important and I hope to inspire students to not only excel in the classroom, but also take what they're learning into the world at large. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing soccer, (more recently) cooking, and managing my investment portfolio.

His teaching experience is broad, covering subjects from English to social studies and history to philosophy and theology. His primary areas of expertise are in composition and writing across the curriculum, reading in all content areas, and English and American Literature; however, Daniel finds that teaching well is a skill that transcends the academic disciplines. When he is not teaching, writing, or reading voraciously, Daniel enjoys playing the guitar and piano, and riding his bike along the many bike trails scattered across southern Illinois and Missouri.

I graduated from Elmhurst College (now Elmhurst University) in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a focus in Early Childhood (birth-3rd grade), letter of approval for special education and a minor in teaching English as a second language. Since then, I've spent the past two years working as a lead teacher in an early pre-k classroom, first as a lead in a ten 24-36 month olds at a private family-owned center and now as a co-lead in a classroom of ten 15-36 month olds at a local community center.I believe we should be lifelong learners and strive to foster that for myself by staying up to date with the latest trends in education. In my free time, I love to read (historical fiction, paranormal, and dystopians) and play boardgames or DnD with my friends.

Conversational French Tutor • +33 Subjects
I was born and raised in Iceland. I have a BA in French from University of Iceland and an MFA in Acting from Regent University. I have tutored for about a year in French and Languages. I find tutoring very rewarding and I am incredibly proud of all of my students. In my opinion, teaching is an art form that requires a committed focus from both the teacher and the student. Despite all the distractions of the world, my goal as a tutor is to be flexible with my students while offering them quality-learning sessions that have a clear point of concentration. My goal is to create a learning environment that has the freedom and clear channel of communication, which allows my students to explore the subject area and develop good learning habits. Further, communication is an essential element in quality teaching; therefore, I am committed to engaging with my students and connect with them to establish a fun and focused learning session.I have lived in Paris, Reykjavik, New York, Miami, and now Denver. I love to travel and discover and explore new places, cultures, people, and food. I also like sports, in particular, soccer. I am a huge Manchester United fan. Further, I am starting to appreciate American Football more and more, but I do not have a specific team that I root for maybe I will become a Broncos fan. Finally, reading has always been a big part of my life, and I always have to have a least one book on my nightstand. Right now, I prefer to read Scandinavian crime novels, such as Stieg Larssons Girl With the Dragoon Tattoo and Jussi Adler Olsons Department Q series.

10th Grade Reading Tutor • +50 Subjects
I attended DePaul University, and in December, I received a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a concentration in Literary Studies, and French. During my time at DePaul, I was a Writing Center Tutor at the University Center for Writing-based Learning. There, I worked with students from a variety of disciplines on their writing. For example, I tutored freshman who were working on rhetorical analyses as well as senior psychology majors working on personal statements for grad school. The diversity of writing I worked with fostered a sense of adaptability in me that I bring to every new tutoring session. I also tutored English Language Learners, focusing more on the technical aspects of language and honing their speaking skills. I tutor any subject under the broad spectrum of English: college writing, reading comprehension, literary analyses, speech and argumentative writing, and so forth. I also tutor French! I received my degree in French and spent a semester abroad in Paris, where I lived with a host family and soaked in the culture, like a slice of baguette bread mopping up a delicious sauce. My tutoring style is direct but not overbearing: I know how to direct students to the right answer, but I will do so through leading questions, providing examples, or referencing rules or conventions that the student has learned previously. Students possess the knowledge the obtain the right answer but sometimes have to be guided to it; that's the purpose of education and tutoring. Because education is so monumental in shaping students' futures, it's crucial that they receive the attention necessary to succeed.Because of my love of all things literary, my hobbies include reading, writing, and attending literary events such as poetry and fiction readings. I also love to dance and to play piano; anything musical interests me! I am a certified Francophile: French food, movies, and culture absolutely excite me, and I love to share my knowledge and experience with others!
