Session Summaries by Trigonometry Tutors

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Brodrick in Cranston, RI
Today, the student and I had a great session. She completed six lessons on her homework. She does her homework through an online program. These lessons include the topics of function operations, exponents, graphing functions, writing equations for lines, and adding/ subtracting fractions. She had prior knowledge of these topics but did not become fully competent in the skills until the end of our session. She is now comfortable completing similar tasks on her own.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Kameron in Cranston, RI
We covered trigonometric identities and just worked on that for the entire session. The student needed help grasping the concept of how to manipulate one trigonometric function, in order to change it into another trigonometric function. We went over problems that either involved simplifying it or proving it. If they were basic problems, he got them quite easily, but if they were intermediate or advanced problems, he struggled. We will continue to work on those problems. I left him the work for converting one trigonometric function using the Pythagorean theorem for him to review.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Jonathan in Cranston, RI
Today we continued our discussion on piecewise functions and step functions. We have talked about this topic at length since it is both a newer concept for the student, and he really wants to be prepared for his next examination. The main goal of this session was to make sure he is prepared to graph, find domain/ range, and write piecewise and step equations. We worked on sample exercises from the book and made sure to focus on all the subtle details that have been causing confusing for him. We wrapped up by planning for the next session, and making sure we have time to cover all the remaining sections in the chapter that could appear on his exam. We have made a lot of progress on the piecewise functions, and are ready to move on to the remaining sections, so he plans on taking his exam once we have finished out review. He persevered through a tough topic and is doing well, so overall this was a great session.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Jerilynn in Cranston, RI
We practiced working with arithmetic sequences and series and started talking about geometric series and other types of series. We also practiced finding the rule of sequence for a certain list of numbers as well as how to generate the rule of sequence for an arithmetic sequence when only given two non-sequential terms. We then went through how to find the finite sum of a sequence of numbers and how to write it using the sum notation. We practiced using the formula for the sum of the first n terms and how to use the formula to find the partial sum of a sequence that doesn't start at the first term. We looked at how the sum notation for a series gives the rule of sequence so we can write out the n terms that we are adding together or use the partial sum formula. The student is doing better at working with sequences and series now that she is a little clearer on the difference between the number of the term in the sequence/series and the value of that term.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Dhinakaran in Cranston, RI
We spent the first part of the tutoring session going over the Fibonacci sequence. The student was then shown how sequences and series can converge to a value while fluctuating up and down from that value. This was part of the student's review sheet but we took it a step further by exploring an example around e^(-x)sinx. Then, we did some work on recursive sequences and worked on the dependency of terms in a series on their precedent terms. Given that she is going to do trigonometry next, we started doing the double angle formula with respect to sine, cosine, and tangent.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Gregory in Cranston, RI
We covered properties of exponents. The student has a good handle on the rules of exponents and was able to manipulate the problems with ease. We also looked at a word problem using the laws of sine and cosine in preparation for her test coming up on Friday. Our next session is scheduled for Thursday.
