I am a fourth-year student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Individualized Studies. My areas of focus are Art, Creative Writing, and Communication Studies. I've tutored for three years with a program that focuses on serving underserved communities, and during my time as a tutor, I've developed a passion for helping students thrive using their own unique learning style. One of my goals as a tutor is to not only teach students, but to also encourage them to think in a way that allows them to learn independently. I am an incoming Epidemiology and Global Health Master of Public Health student at the University of Minnesota. I received my undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Grinnell College in 2020 and also have extensive coursework in philosophy, biology, chemistry, and physics. I worked as a calculus tutor in Grinnell's math lab and tutored a professor's 8th grader in recreational math, competition problems, and ACT math test prep. I'm an alumni of the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and enjoy juggling, sudoku, and creating origami tessellations.

I know what it's like to feel hopeless and defeated in a class. It's a very hard place to be in. If I could keep just one student from feeling this way in their classes, it'd be worth it. I want to create a comfortable, judgement-free environment that holds space for all types of learning. I want to help students find what motivates them to learn and which teaching methods work well with that student's specific learning style.

I'm dedicated to critical thought and careful, clear writing. In my independent written work, I focus on issues of political economy, critical theory, and the social and political impacts of technology. I recently also have begun to work on a science fiction novel. In tutoring, I hope to encourage students to approach writing and language with ease and technical competence. I have extensive experience in many academic areas, and can help develop skills for large research projects, short essays, standardized test taking, and everything in between. Nothing is too complex to be broken down clearly and mastered!

I made it through the actuarial exams, and you can to! You cannot study for the actuarial exams like any other math test - they require special preparation for the unique types of questions asked. I have been on all sides of the actuarial exam process - I passed the exams myself, I have written questions for exams, helped the SOA make curriculum decisions, and graded exams. I'd love to help you pass your next actuarial exam!My work as a healthcare consulting actuary has also led me to attain the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential, a subject which I have a real passion for. Medical coding is the backbone of our country's healthcare systems financing, and the cost of healthcare has never been more important. That means we need good coders like never before - passing the CPC is an important step for you filling that role!

I just graduated from Edina High School and will be attending Stanford University in the fall. Although I am unsure exactly what I want to study, I will likely explore Public Policy, Political Science, and Symbolic Systems. I also graduated from the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Math Program (UMTMYP) in 10th grade where I studied up through Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus. With a teacher for a mother, I have been raised appreciating and understanding the value of education. I love tutoring and have been doing it for many years. I started a tutoring program at an inner-city charter school to mentor and teach underserved students ranging from K-12. Additionally, I have worked as an independent tutor for students. I can tutor for a variety of subjects, especially standardized tests and math. As a recent high school graduate, I know the college application and testing process well and can help explain and guide in what often seems overwhelming. I have also been tutored myself, so I know the value of a great tutor and hope to provide that for others. As a tutor, I want to create an environment of learning, excitement, and joy. Outside of school, I enjoy playing tennis, longboarding, and exploring the beautiful lakes of Minnesota!
