I am currently a junior at the University of Arizona, pursuing a bachelor's degree in journalism and Spanish literature. After graduation, I plan to earn my master's in investigative journalism from Arizona State University. Last year, I worked at C.A.T.S. Academics, a tutoring center for UA athletes, where I helped students struggling with English composition and Spanish courses. Though I enjoy tutoring students in writing classes, I am most passionate about Spanish and have studied the language for nearly nine years. I am a firm believer that with the right instructor and plenty of hands-on practice, anyone can learn a foreign language. In my free time, I enjoy reading (yes, I am a proud, self-proclaimed nerd), writing, and spending time with friends.

Hello, I am a recent graduate of the University of Washington where I received my Bachelor's degree in English. I graduated on the Dean's List and received a scholarship to fund an Undergraduate Research paper on American Literature. During my studies I volunteered at a Seattle School in ESL classrooms. There I worked with groups of students and individuals on a variety of subjects including english, math, and social studies. My tutoring style centers around exploring a students strengths and weaknesses and working realistically with them to improve their knowledge. Each student is an individual and needs individualized learning. But of course there are general strategies which I find effective. Although I am capable of tutoring a variety of subjects my specialty is English and writing essays as it is what I have the most experience in. My strategy for attacking any essay topic is to help tofirst gather information, plan out how to form it into an effective argument, and then get to writing. At this point I work with student from the sentence level through paragraph and finally to overall structure. My goal is to not only improve the current essay, but to imporve essay writing skills permanently.I am passionate about teaching, and find it constantly rewarding. Currently I am awaiting deployment to Sub-Saharan Africa with the Peace Corps where among other things I will teach. Aside from this I also enjoy playing guitar and listening to music, films, jogging, and just hanging out with friends. I grew up in Kirkland and have lived in Washington my whole life.

I chose tutoring because I myself was a student who needed outside help to fully understand fun, yet challenging subjects. I am a native Spanish speaker and growing up in the United States made it difficult to retain the language. In college I sought to challenge myself and take Spanish classes, to further my knowledge of my native language. After finishing the required grammar classes and literature classes at Saint Louis University, I found myself reading difficult works of art by authors like Jorge Luis Borges, Miguel Cervantes, and contemporary authors such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Challenging as it was, the rewarding feeling after taking these courses made me aware of my passion to help student with similar struggles. I enjoy transferring that passion to overcome difficult subjects and to get students excited about the subject! I love the idea of working with different backgrounds and hope to use different approaches to create a good fit of teaching strategy.

I am a Banneker-Key scholar in the honors college at the University of Maryland with a major in chemistry and minors in Spanish language and culture and business analytics. I believe in the value of a well-rounded education centered on critical analysis of concepts beyond simply "answering the question." My teaching philosophy preaches explaining complex scientific and literary concepts to answer questions rather than brute memorization. One of my favorite phrases is "give a man to fish, feed him for a day. But teach a man to fish, feed him for life!"

I am an incoming freshman at Stanford University. I plan to pursue the Science, Technology, and Society major (on the pre-medical track), which is one of the only Stanford majors to offer both Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees. I completed The International Baccalaureate program during high school, ranked in the academic top 10, and took 12 AP Classes (National AP Scholar).I have tutored extensively through the online scientific magazine I founded, STEM10, where I helped students structure, write, and edit their articles. Furthermore, I have worked as a private tutor in my community for algebra, calculus, biology, and chemistry. Finally, I have experience in adapting to different students learning styles through my position as a junior dance instructor at the Vani Dance Academy, where I train students aged 6-11.I tutor a broad range of subjects from the humanities (English, Literature, and History) and the sciences (biology, chemistry, math). I am most passionate about the sciences because many of my extracurriculars have centered around them, such as cancer research and public health research.Furthermore, by recently going through the college application process, I can offer valuable insight on college essays, activity lists, and college selection. I am familiar with the Common Application, Coalition, BS/MD (8-year medical program), and Institutional systems for the college application. I got into multiple top colleges and BS/MD (8-year medical program) during the 2020-2021 college application cycle and can offer advice for students currently applying. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, I see the most improvement through my method of "categorization." Standardized testing is about how well you can master and "beat" a certain way the test is built. Thus, when tutoring students in standardized testing, I strive to make sure they understand their mistakes to avoid repetition. I can share resources such as books, strategy packets, and worksheets which proved effective for me when preparing for college standardized tests. My tutoring style centers around incorporating an engaging lesson in which the student asks questions and actively participates throughout it. Furthermore, I strive to teach my students the curriculum they need and valuable study skills that will carry on to other subjects and later in their studies. Many students try to memorize too much information the night before a test, and the information will ultimately be stored as short-term memory rather than long-term memory. I ensure my students learn through evidence-based revision tips, such as active recall and spaced repetition, resulting in information being stored in students' long-term memory and successful recall for examinations.I can show students how to effectively use organizational and online study tools/resources that have been proven helpful in my academic career. These include the Anki flashcard system, Notion organizational system, and Google Calendar. Organizing one's academic and personal life plays a significant role in students' grades and personal satisfaction. By showing effective organizational techniques, I hope to help students achieve the academic success they have always wanted.I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be necessary for an improved quality of life. I can provide tutoring in humanities (English, literature, history, and TOK), sciences (biology, chemistry, math), standardized testing (ACT, SAT, AP Exams, IB Exams), and organizational/study skills.

I am currently an undergraduate at Pennsylvania State University, and majoring in Psychology and Social Sciences. After I graduate I aspire to have a career in correctional psychology, where I can work with helping incarcerated individuals and their families with resources and rehabilitation.I have been tutoring Spanish, Algebra, and elementary school math since my freshman year of high school. I had the opportunity to work with K-12 students and Spanish speaking adults who are learning English to pass their citizenship. I believe that students learn better when they feel like they have a real relationship with their teachers. So, getting to know the student allows me to adapt my teaching methods based on their personality.Being a student who once needed a bilingual tutor, I know how valuable it is to have that skill. Having the opportunity to lift the pressure off of parents' shoulders to help their children is extremely rewarding, and is the reason why I tutor. I love giving back to my community and finding new ways to do so.
