The student and I had a good session today. We started the session by working on adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers. The student has been having some issues when she has to double borrow (borrow from 2nd number and 3rd number), but I believe we have nearly resolved those issues. :) We then briefly did some spelling practice (y as vowel unit). We then worked extensively on the article that she is writing for the school paper. She did a good job staying focused and worked hard on recounting her own experiences with ice skating and on writing up parts on the performance that she will see tonight. I believe her story will turn out very good and be very interesting for others to read!

The student and I worked on her next class assignment. I taught her about the different components of a time-series decomposition and went over how to find some of the basic parts in the program. If we meet again, we'll need to finish her assignment and start looking at the regression unit.

Summer Tutoring review by Neil in Atlanta, GA
Today the student and I covered two areas of study, namely a statement of Utilitarianism and an objection thereto, in the first place, and then Kant's categorical imperative, in the second. She took diligent notes as we discussed various aspects of Mill's position on utilitarianism, justice, liberty, and possible incommensurabilities between the first principles thereof. We also discussed the importance of being clear and concise in writing philosophy papers, the need to stay away from florid prose and the like. We did a close reading of the first ten paragraphs of the second section of Kant's 'Groundwork", which concluded our meeting. I enjoy working with the student greatly and look forward to our next session.

The student had a Religion assignment to explain a quote by Gandhi. We spent the first part of the session reading about Gandhi so the student had some background on him before starting his essay.
