The student has been working on derivatives in class. He is doing very well applying derivative rules to problems. Today we went over how to use zero crossings and inflection points on graphs to take the derivative visually. We also discussed strategies to simplify problems before applying the quotient or chain rule.

The student worked on her math homework, which was equivalent fractions with a grid. I introduced common denominators as another way to find equivalent fractions and we practiced using both calculations and drawing to find relative values of fractions. We then worked on her social studies project, which will be a state report on Indiana. We read about the history of Indiana and I brought in concepts like westward expansion, economic development, and Native American treaties, which are part of the material for her upcoming test.

Tutoring review by Katie in East Point, GA
Today was a review day, so we spent time reviewing the concepts she is covering in class. We studied integers, number lines, and coordinate planes. She is pretty sure she has a test this week, so I had her take the practice test in the textbook. For practice tonight, I asked her to do the standardized test prep in the chapter she is studying to prepare her more for the test. Towards the end of the session, I quizzed her on some most commonly misspelled words since grammar and spelling are areas on the test. Overall, it was a great session!

We went over the chapter 6 test results. The student did well and seemed to understand all the questions. He just needs to play closer attention to detail. We made a checklist for him to consider to help with that. We also reviewed the material for the chapter 5 retake. We then went over homework for chapter 7.

Today, we covered the student's review packet for her upcoming test. We went over the answers for the two word problems and graphing the inverses of sinusoidal functions. She doesn't seem to be struggling with this material. She is more prepared for this test than her last one. I am confident she will do well. I left her with some tricks and formulas to help her solve word problems. I also encouraged her to memorize the unit circle.
