I have always enjoyed mathematics because it allows for critical thinking skills and can allow for creativity. I am someone who can break down problems and concepts into more efficient steps. I focus on creating an environment where students want to ask me question and accept people even when they make mistakes is it is something every math student goes through. I have previous tutoring experience with helping younger college students on college algebra. My knowledge expands from basic linear equations to complex quadratic and nonlinear word problems. Some of my favorite ways of teaching is through visuals and guided sample word problems. My goal is for students to use their knowledge of mathematical concepts to apply to any problem. I am patient and organized with helping students grow. I also communicate with students efficiently so they can reach their goals. I am excited to contribute as a math tutor as people who have the correct support can allow any person to succeed.

Quite simply my passion is literature: I hold two degrees in creative writing (a B.F.A. and an M.A.) and write poetry, fiction, critical essays, and creative non-fiction. While completing my masters from 2012-2014, I tutored students at my university's writing center. It was there that I discovered another of my passions: helping students who are eager to learn. My profoundly meaningful experience as a tutor led me to join Varsity after graduation.I believe in the importance of writing correctly, expressively, and effectively. Being able to express oneself precisely is vital for students of all disciplines, and indeed for all people who are involved in the difficult process of navigating human relationships. Achieving this precision, however, easier said than done. As a tutor, I am committed to helping students express themselves with as much creativity and uninhibitedness as possible while also staying true to the constraints of the English language. I believe that I am able to do this by employing the conversational method of pedagogy: asking questions, prodding students to push themselves creatively and intellectually, and attending to the details of their written work. By submitting ourselves to this process, we not only improve the quality of the essay, we improve as writers, thinkers, and communicators.

I'm a recent graduate of Georgia State University, with a degree in Business Administration. Math has always been my favorite subject, especially Algebra because of the understanding of formulas and how they work and relate to the world around us. I'm a believer in allowing the student to work through the problem so I can observe the way the student approaches a problem, then we move forward from there. I allow the student to make mistakes in the process, so we can reconstruct that process to tackle the problem. Mistakes are the passageway to success in my books, so let me help your student become confident in his/her abilities! Outside of work, I love dance, music, and adventuring outdoors.

I am a detailed and straightforward person who enjoys calligraphy. My first introduction to anything calligraphy was Japanese Calligraphy. Before I could brush strokes of ink across rice paper, I had to learn how to grind my own ink, hold the brush properly, and learn the order of the strokes. The process was more important than the goal, and mediocrity was not an option. This also describes my tutoring style and how I teach. I believe that learning is a process where order guides yet the target moves. To master math, learning to add makes learning to multiply easier. When challenged, return to the point where you understood, make adjustments, and methodically proceed. This reminds me of my struggles at Georgia State University, where I later received my Bachelor of Arts in English. I missed some stepping stones to writing quality essays. Not knowing what I needed to do to create quality essays, I went back to the basics. I sought help from the best and spent many hours writing and rewriting. Giving up was not an option. Not giving up was how I met my first student, an adult with whom I shared a birthday. Since then, I have worked with students from Pre-K to adults, including homeschoolers, immigrants, and refugees in schools, churches, and courts. I enjoy guiding students through their educational challenges. "I never lose. I either win or learn." Nelson Mandela

I am an undergraduate student at Georgia State University. I am currently pursuing a major in Film & Media Studies. Although I am young, I have traveled to many parts of the world including Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Dubai, Turkey, Puerto Rico, The Dominican Republic, and my mother's home country, Senegal. I've witnessed so many different cultures and interacted with different types of people from all walks of life. I believe these opportunities too engulf myself in other cultures have given me a unique perspective on life that I continually learn from and will cherish forever. Growing up, I often played school with my brothers, helping them with homework or concepts they felt their teachers didn't explain well. I found myself being able to do the same with my peers in class who couldn't grasp the way our instructor was delivering information. I understand that EVERY SINGLE PERSON on this earth learns differently. I have a talent for explaining things in different ways and answering questions, because as a person with ADHD, I myself frequently need for things to be explained differently. If someone does not understand something, repeating it the same way will not help them. I tutor a broad range of subjects and the quote, "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one," describes me perfectly. I am a person with a very good broad knowledge. I spend a lot of time doing research to learn new things, to improve, or to teach myself new skills. As a self-classified life-long learner, I am not passionate about one single subject, but rather I welcome the opportunity to learn as much as I can, and then teach as much as I can. Anyone who knows me personally knows that if there is a problem, they can count on me to solve it; because if I don't already know the solution, I will go the extra mile to find it.
