Statistics Tutoring review by Troy in Huntington Park, CA
The student had a math test this upcoming Thursday, so we worked on data (mean, median, etc.) in preparation for the test. He was comfortable with most of the actual review homework, though we worked some on thinking about how to interpret non-standard graphs-for example, how to rearrange a chart relating months in terms that can be used to calculate averages. We then extended what he'd done by thinking about how to add new data points and calculate new averages, or find a missing data point (for example, if you have 4 books with an average of 15 pages, and add two new books to get an average of 20 pages, how many pages total did the new books have).

The student had a calculus test the day after the session. We spent the majority of the session reviewing for her calculus exam. We covered logarithms, exponents, factoring, and substitution. We used her old homework assignments as a guide. She was well prepared for the exam before we started the session. I want to continue working on the standardized exam practice, which we skipped this week.

Today was our first session. We started with addition, so that I can get an idea of what the student needs help with. We then did a reading passage, which included sight words. Her father was available to assist her to use the mouse, which was very helpful, as she is very young. I feel that she is going to be successful. She seemed to enjoy her first session.
