Session Summaries by French Tutors

French Tutoring review by Karlyn in Huntington Park, CA
The student told me that her class was starting to study direct and indirect object pronouns. We spent about half the session or so reviewing these concepts. During the other half of the session, we worked on memorizing and understanding new vocabulary in context. She has a better understanding of Spanish sentence structure (such as conjugating past tense verbs correctly) than when we started, and I encourage her to regularly dedicate time to practicing what she learns outside of class.

French Tutoring review by Casey in Huntington Park, CA
This was our first meeting, so it was primarily diagnostic. She showed me her book and her last quiz. We discussed what she is doing in Spanish class right now, and what she would like to focus on in our sessions - direct and indirect objects, the preterit and imperfect indicative, vocabulary, and temporal phrases. We agreed to meet next week to continue working on how to form and use the preterit. In the mean time, I will be sending her a list of verbs to review, and a brief audiovisual clip to practice listening comprehension.

French Tutoring review by Sanger in Huntington Park, CA
This session was particularly productive. We practiced giving directions in preparation for an in class activity that the student has tomorrow. As usual she was very focused and seemed to grasp the material well. I have encouraged her to practice writing directions without looking at her notes in preparation for the assignment, particularly focusing on new vocabulary words in the process.

French Tutoring review by Audrey in Huntington Park, CA
On this session with my student, we studied expressions with the verb "ETRE" for a quiz she will take tomorrow. I gave her the expressions in English and she had to write them in French. She was already confident, so I decided to give her more expressions to learn and I also gave her complex sentences to translate in French. To practice, I asked her to describe herself using the verbs "ETRE" and "AVOIR". This way she could review vocabulary. I am sure she will have an excellent grade for her test.

French Tutoring review by Omar in Huntington Park, CA
Our focus today was on a project she will be working on all week. We went over personal pronouns and adjectives. We also went over subject-verb agreement. We focused on a poem she wrote on poetry. We did corrections. She makes conjugation mistakes and adjective-noun disagreements. But she has a good intuition for the language, and her mistakes are never severe. I gave her memorization and pronunciation strategies.

French Tutoring review by Lin in Huntington Park, CA
She and I began our time discussing her most recent French quiz, reworking items with errors so that she understands how to do all sections correctly. We then spent time reviewing and practicing with object pronouns (direct and indirect), in both the present tense and the immediate future. She is doing so much better with this concept and is much more confident with very few errors! We then reviewed the new vocabulary from class, followed by discussing her French homework. The last part of our time together was spent reviewing the passe compose with avoir, the next grammar concept for her class. She had no trouble at all!
