Today the student worked on the final exam of the online course she has been doing, with a focus on interpreting velocity/ time graphs. We also did a bit of statistical analysis work for a project she had.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Nathan in Worcester, MA
We discussed some introductory chemistry principles, such as chemical vs physical changes, types of mixtures, and different chemical techniques. The work was pretty straight forward; he had a few questions but in general seemed to understand most of the material. We finished the chemistry early--there wasn't much to discuss actually. So we then worked on his math homework for the remainder of the session: solving equations for a single variable and answering word problems (translating words into equations). He seemed to have a pretty good grasp of most concepts, needing some explanations here and there. Overall, he did very well with all concepts covered.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Stefan in Worcester, MA
We began by introducing ourselves. The student's mom had sent me the syllabus for the class so I was able to bring practice problems for us to work over. We covered units (metric to metric unit conversion plus Kelvin to Celsius temperature conversions), scientific notation and significant figures. We also talked about the science fair project required for this class; we discussed several ideas and he will pick one to focus on by Friday. He understood the subject matter; all he needs is more practice so he can avoid the few mistakes he made. I told him where he could find extra practice material at.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Andrew in Worcester, MA
The student and I met for the first time. We went over questions she had concerning problems in chemical equilibrium as well as calculations she was struggling with in her lab homework. She seemed to have a hard time mainly with understanding the math aspects of the chapter, but after today's session she seemed much more confident. I informed her to keep practicing the problems at the back of her book in preparation for her quiz on the upcoming Tuesday.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Brian in Worcester, MA
We covered significant figures, the basics of ionic/ covalent bonding, isotopes, and a bit of mass spec. The students struggled with significant figures in the beginning. After their lesson, they do not have problems with this anymore. I told them to review mass spec and the history of the atomic structure at end of the session. Overall the session was great. Both girls are able to grasp concepts very fast!

Microbiology Tutoring review by Javier in Worcester, MA
This was our first session. We reviewed the syllabus and talked about the first assignment. I offered some suggestions and examples on how the student could think about answering her first training module, which, among other things, pertained to describing statistics to a lay person. The student also finished the first half of the assignment which I already reviewed and gave her feedback on. Since the course is more an introductory overview of statistics, the focus of our sessions will focus on interpreting quantitative statistical concepts in addition to clear and concise writing.
