Writing Tutoring review by Thalia in Worcester, MA
The student and I were preparing for the English exam he will be taking soon. The exam is formatted to include multiple choice, adding on to a narrative, and an argumentative essay. We mostly worked on how to structure an argumentative essay from any article, so that he could be successful on the exam.

Writing Tutoring review by Kathleen in Worcester, MA
The student and I reviewed an English essay on heroism (a theme from The Odyssey and Julius Caesar), and on a religion essay that is due this week. I know that writing is one of the student's least favorite things, but he seems to be becoming more confident in his ideas and writing ability. We'll be meeting again tomorrow to review for his upcoming math final.

Writing Tutoring review by Sarah in Worcester, MA
Today the student and I picked up where we left off with her Odyssey paper yesterday. She was able to pick out all of her quotes in class, so we worked on fleshing out her ideas for the body paragraphs. She has great ideas, but struggles with connecting each idea to the broader idea of why each makes Odysseus a better king. We finished about half of a first, rough draft of her paper. She intended to continue writing after I left, and she will continue to work on it over the long weekend. It will be very helpful for her to have this rough draft prior to our meeting on Monday so that there will be plenty of time for corrections. I reminded her again as she was writing to be careful about run-on sentences, as well as the use of informal nouns, such as first or second person pronouns. The long weekend will be great for her to have the time to really edit this paper rather than being rushed to finish.

Writing Tutoring review by William in Worcester, MA
The student and I first discussed the nature of his school, studies and expectations of teachers and himself. I reviewed with him three handouts on how to improve his writing as well as state the importance of becoming a proficient writer capable of writing strong in class as well as on take-home essays. These handouts which he kept for use were the following: steps to good writing, how to revise an essay, and the basic structure of a 5 paragraph historical essay. Following this, we revised a paragraph using nearly all 10 of the checkpoints and common mistakes, such as misspelled words, subject-verb agreement, correct usage of adverbs and adjectives, trite words and expressions, repeating words and phrases, etc. Lastly, I gave him an assignment to work on this week. It was to write an introduction using the basic structure I taught on the subject of participation awards and prizes for young athletes.

Writing Tutoring review by Ashley in Worcester, MA
He introduced his writing and the nature of his work. We spent the time reviewing previous drafts, as well as articles that have previously been published. We discussed feedback from his supervisors, areas of improvement, style choices and strategies to begin deploying. We finished with reviewing an already published piece and went over ways to improve it/ changes he could have made.
