I am a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and the University of Texas at Arlington. I received my BA in History at Southern Illinois and my MA in History at Arlington. While attaining my MA, I worked for the UTA academic support center. While there, I tutored various sections of history, including Roman History, American History, and European History. In addition to tutoring, I also worked directly with a history professor as a supplemental instructor. In that position, I led group study sessions to help aid students comprehend the material. I am currently an adjunct history professor at Tarrant County Community College. I love teaching and it is very satisfying to interact with students. I always seem to learn just as much as they do! When I am not teaching history, reading history, or writing about an historical topic, I am probably either watching a baseball game or outside playing golf, disc golf, tennis, or softball.

I recently graduated with a master's degree in Urban Education Policy from Brown University after studying public policy as an undergraduate at Duke University. I hope to pursue a career in education policy in the future, but at present I want to be the best tutor that I can be. Given my passionate about education policy, I understand the important role that standardized tests play in allowing students to maximize their own educational potential. My goal as a tutor is to help each student that I work with to perform to the best of their abilities on the standardized test that they are preparing to take. I hope that I can play a part in helping my students to attend the higher education institution of their dreams, and I will work as hard as I need to in order to achieve this. I look forward to meeting and working with some exceptional students in my time with Varsity Tutors.

No two clients are the same. My priority as a tutor is to get a sense of each person I'm working with as an individual; I focus on the client's specific strengths, learning styles, and areas desiring improvement, and tailor my teaching approach accordingly. It is in this way that I ensure that the client is heard, comfortable, and getting the most out of our sessions. With 1) ten years of writing experience at the college, graduate, and professional levels, and 2) a practiced background in teaching undergraduate university courses, I look forward to meeting all of your expectations of a superb tutor.A little more about me: In 2009, I earned my BA with honors at a Liberal Arts institution. Currently, I am a PhD Candidate working on my dissertation. When I am not writing in an academic capacity, I enjoy creating poetry and short stories, exploring and playing music, and, above all, helping students.I am excited to meet you, and to work with you to enhance your writing and academic abilities.

I was born to be an educator. I first became enamored of the career when I read Little House on the Prairie. I wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder. I used my mother's old textbooks to create lesson plans for my dolls and stuffed animals. I gave lectures, homework and graded their assignments. I hand wrote report cards for each student. When I was in high school, my mom died and it was my speech teacher that made sure I graduated and got into a good college. I was taken off track by the promise of my ability to be a lawyer, and then I realized that wasn't what I wanted to do and I was in the wrong college. It took me 20 years to wind my way back to that original dream. Today, I honor my speech teacher and my younger self by helping students of all ages reach their academic goals and their life goals.I hold a Doctorate of Management, an International Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis on supply chain and logistics and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. I have taught students from age 4 to age 60. I have taught students from five of the seven continents and taught in Mexico and China. I am certified in English 7-12, with the English as a Second Language certification. I have been teaching since 2006 in both college and K-12. As a college professor, I taught management, logistics, international business, business, marketing, entrepreneurship, organizational design and change, English and algebra. My students have completed projects that saved over $250,000 for businesses and have started six new businesses in under three months.I am excited to spend all of my time working in the one on one environment. I love to be a coach, mentor, and teacher all at the same time. I enjoy identifying your learning style, the prior knowledge that allows you to scaffold to higher academic success. I also think that we should have fun. I enjoy talking about music, TV, movies, pets, children and grandchildren. I believe that if you are having fun, you will be more engaged with the material and will retain more of the information.I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent students and have many skills to help you succeed in your way, not pushing you to the "normal" way of doing things. I look forward to working with students that are interested in learning and who will advocate for what they need. We will be partners in your education and we will achieve your goals, both academic and personal.

I am a recent graduate of Sacred Heart University with a degree in English, and I am currently enrolled getting my Masters in Education. Currently I work in an elementary school, grades Pre-K through eighth grade, and assist in various classrooms. I have worked with students of all levels and in various subjects. I tutor English Language Arts, Government, and lower level Mathematics. All three of those subjects are great to tutor, but I am a little biased towards English. I like to work with students by meeting them where they are at and finding ways to help them connect to the material. Everything is about making the student comfortable and letting them know they can succeed. I used to be a member of the colorguard at Sacred Heart University, and I miss it so much! I wish that I were still spinning.

I currently teach at an elementary school in Chuluota, FL. I have experience tutoring in areas such as reading, writing, literature and grammar and, as it is a passion of mine, I work hard to make it as enjoyable to the student as it is for myself! I love reading!I love teaching these subject areas, along with any other challenges brought onto me. I'm sure this is due to the fact that I am passionate about continual learning. As the phrase goes, you learn something new every day! As a teacher and tutor, you begin to realize that not only are you extending your knowledge to others, but gaining insight and perspective into how to interpret things through a different opinion or view.I am very up to date on pop culture and believe this is an incredibly important as a teacher, as correlating learning into every day entertainment is the best way to attain a student's full attention. After all, life skills are the most important to learn. Communication and relativity are the key to attain success!
