I believe that my enthusiasm allows me to explain subject material in a way that is fun and easy to understand. My method of teaching and studying involves many visual aids, acronyms and analogies that make biology subjects less difficult to grasp. In addition to biology I also enjoy teaching algebra and other math subjects that function as a foundation to higher level mathematics courses. As a student, I developed studying strategies that helped me better understand biology and math concepts. I plan to use what has worked for me in the past to help students who are currently having trouble in those areas. In my spare time, I enjoy trail running, hiking, canoeing and other outdoor activities.

I have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. While at Stanford, I tutored students in both class and individual settings. After graduating, I moved to Tanzania as a Peace Corps Volunteer where I taught hundreds of secondary school students both physics and math. Now that I am back in the United States, I work at Children's Defense Fund as the Youth Programs Associate. In my free time, I like to hike with my dog, read, and cook!

I've taught a wide variety of high school level subjects including SAT prep, biology, and even tennis! I am a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign pursuing a degree in Biology on a pre-dental track. While my major is Biology, I am also very passionate about math and chemistry. In my past experiences teaching, a common issue I found was students feeling overwhelmed by the study material. I use a methodical, step-by-step approach that simplifies the question, and I hope to make learning a simple, enjoyable experience for my students. In my spare time, I enjoy lifting, basketball, and playing the guitar.

I am a freshman at Caltech majoring in Applied and Computational Mathematics. My favorite subject to tutor is math because I find it very rewarding to simplify complex topics to aid in understanding. I have lots of tutoring experience. In high school, I ran and taught an SAT prep class and was vice president of my school's NHS chapter where I ran our tutoring program, and I, myself, tutored. I also was a teaching assistant in the summer of 2020 for a class in discrete mathematics through a program called PACT (Program in Algorithmic and Combinatorial Thinking). I've spent most of my life learning and using languages, earning a degree in Classics and a Master's in Translation from National Taiwan Normal University. I know Latin, Classical Greek, Chinese, and Spanish, as well as a little French and Japanese. Chinese is the foreign language I know best, having studied, used, and taught it for almost twenty years. I use Chinese every day to communicate with my Taiwanese girlfriend, and I love helping others gain mastery in a language with an unjust reputation for difficulty. I like the tension between "playing by the rules" and "thinking outside the box" that comes with language use. I like the small joys of grammar and syntax, as well as the bigger joys of personal connections and deeper, richer life experiences that come with languages. I love teaching because I get to help other people experience for themselves these same joys. For me, language is fun, not frustrating, and it's this excitement along with a strong grasp of fundamentals, that I love to share with students.

I graduated from Colorado State University in May 2000 with MS in computer science and in May 2004 with a PhD in mathematics. I have taught mathematics and computer science at Colorado State University and Emory University. The courses I have taught include pre-calculus, calculus 1-3, business calculus, AP calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, discrete mathematics, Java programming, algorithms and data structures, college algebra, etc. I have been an AP reader of Computer Science A for a few years. Besides teaching, I am also enjoy tutoring at my free time. While most students learn by reading examples and solving problems, I, as experienced teacher and tutor, guide students learning by nurturing their interest, helping them understand the WHY in addition to HOW.

Before I liked biochemistry, I was more into mathematics. So, how did I get interested in PhD.? Well, if you had met me 5 years ago, my answer would have been a strong No. But during the year 2014-2015, it was my Senior Design project that sparked that light of curiosity in my head about biochemistry. I was working with microalgae, and the work fascinated me towards biological pathways. This made my choice for PhD. much easier. When I got into PhD program, my focus of study was clear. I joined this group that has synthesized several anticancer drugs. And to learn about the drugs interaction with cellular pathways, that leads to its anticancer effect was itself very interesting and worth exploring.
