I have been tutoring for the past 5 years at the University of Detroit Mercy in all subject areas, but mainly science and math as my undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. The past 3 years, I have tutored mainly physician assistant courses at the University of Detroit Mercy. I have recently acquired my Bachelor's in English from Virginia Commonwealth University. I graduated a Distinguished English Major. I am applying for my MFA in poetry next. I have had over two years of experience working with college-level students at the remedial level and at senior level and I've worked a lot with non-traditional trajectory students. I enjoy it quite a bit. I felt rewarded when one of the students I was working closely with turned his work ethic around and began to take his writing seriously. His teacher said it was because of me. That was an incredible feeling. I was very proud of the both of us.I tutor creative writing (creative nonfiction, poetry, fiction), I assist with editing essays (and having just polished a longform essay thesis I have experience in both shortform and thesis-length work), I can assist with writing personal statements, I have public speaking experience, and I can assist with reading comprehension/literary analysis.My favorite subject to tutor is creative writing because I am so passionate about it myself. My philosophy when it comes to tutoring is about extending grace toward the self and others. People need time to refine and internalize their skills. If students can acquire a skill immediately then that's fantastic but it's important to exercise patience and getting to know your learning style so others know how to best adapt to your needs. I can help with learning styles as well.

I attended college at Rockhurst University where I received my B.S. in Mathematics. After graduating from there, I attended Saint Louis University, where I began work on my M.A. in Mathematics, which is still in progress.I began tutoring students at a private company, where I worked during my senior year of high school. While at Rockhurst, I worked in the Learning Center for two years as a tutor and as a Supplemental Instructor for one year. In addition, I had the opportunity to shadow a local high school math teacher. At SLU, I worked in their Tutoring Center for one semester and during my second semester I taught a section of College Algebra.I am able to tutor many different areas of math, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. Of these, my favorite is definitely Calculus, because I think that there are many people with misconceptions about the subject, and I enjoy showing people that there is nothing to afraid of, and that it can actually be fun!Outside of math, my hobbies include video games and watching movies. I also can be persuaded to perform some card tricks from time to time.
