I was a teacher for 13 years in the SUSD school district where I taught grades 2-4. During the summers I worked with talented youth by teaching a pre-algebra course to 4th graders at Arizona State University. Throughout my career I have taught an array of learners and have developed many skills to meet individual needs. Throughout my teaching career to now, I have coached volleyball. I have coached at a variety of levels and age groups ranging from 11yrs-18yrs. I have a great passion for helping students succeed and have the patience and creative skill-set to make that happen. In my free time I enjoy playing volleyball, riding my bicycle with friends, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

In addition, I have taken over 10 years in fine arts training and am thrilled to offer to teach drawing in fine arts. My name is Nino Gonzalez and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with a M.S. in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology.

I received a B.S. in Business Economics and an M.A. in Classics from the University of Arizona. I am currently working on completing my Ph.D. in Classics at the University of California, Irvine. I have tutored a variety of students, ranging from the elementary to the college level, for the past four years. I primarily tutor subjects relating to the Humanities, such as Ancient Languages, History, and English Composition. My favorite subject to tutor is Latin, since I regard Latin as the most beautiful and intricate of the human languages. When tutoring I first ask for a copy of the course syllabus/schedule, assess the needs, goals, and expectations of the student in the course, and then set up a tutoring system that serves each student's specific situation.

For my honors creative thesis in poetry, I wrote 52 original poems, centered on themes of transit, transience, nature, and urban life (particularly how these categories intersect). I also created and taught humanities courses to high school and middle school students through the Educational Studies Program at Harvard. Through this group, I co-founded ESProut, a program focused on bringing free after-school classes to under-resourced schools in the greater Somerville area, through which I taught French and poetry. Following graduation, I spent the school-year working as an English language teaching assistant at a high school in Bordeaux, France where I created lessons focusing on grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic speech, and culture. This past year, I received my master's in English at the University of Cambridge, writing a dissertation on trans-Atlantic/trans-cultural poetry with a focus on Walt Whitman, T.S. Eliot, and Jules Laforgue. Many summers have found me working as a residential assistant for Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, where I often would run the ever popular Seuss & Silverstein appreciation session. My ultimate goal is to become a high school English teacher and I am interested in becoming involved in educational policy at the national level later on in my life. Teaching is a joy that has always rivaled the happiness I receive from reading a great poem or communicating in another language. English and French literature are the two great passions of my life, and it is when I'm teaching that I feel most like I am doing meaningful and rewarding work. When I'm not reading poetry or practicing my French, I like boogie-boarding (a recently acquired skill), hiking, baking (often French desserts), and knitting.
