Welcome! My name is Rachel Sanderson-Graff and I am a high school History, English as a New Language (ENL), and AP Psychology teacher in New York City. I received my Master's in Secondary Social Studies and ENL Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, one of the top education programs in the country. Before entering education over 6 years ago, I previously worked in marketing and also spent time working as a private English tutor for both Spanish- and French-speaking families and I volunteered as a literacy tutor at elementary schools. My goal as a teacher and a tutor is to ensure I create an experience that best fits each student's needs and interests. Every person is different, therefore, the way they learn must be different as well. I tailor the education experience to every student I work with in order to best support their academic growth as well as their social-emotional growth. After having worked with a student, I hope I've not only helped them meet the content and skill objectives, but I hope I've instilled a deeper love of learning in them as well.As your potential tutor, I will create an experience that works for you so you meet your goals. I look forward to working with you!

I graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a BS in engineering physics, and a math minor. I have been tutoring for more than 6 years. For 2.5 years, I taught math to Cornell Engineering undergraduates, and I looked forward to it every week! On Varsity Tutors, I tutor up to college level mathematics and physics, test prep (including AP courses, and SAT reading/writing). Explaining difficult math and science concepts in plain English is my forte. I love teaching and will be glad to help anyone become an independent learner.

Hello parents and students! My first experience with tutoring came in 2009 when I signed on to coach (tutor + mentor) struggling freshman engineering students. The success that I helped them achieve was so rewarding that I made it a point to return to tutoring after graduation! My tutoring style is heavily influenced by my problem-solving-oriented engineering background. In school, I learned how to break down problems, analyze each component, and then proceed step-by-step to a solution. This same approach has helped me excel as a tutor because breaking down problems for students and guiding them as they grapple with the concepts involved helps identify sticking points and facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the material at hand.My previous tutoring experience has taught me how to be patient, present information to students in a way that matches their individual learning styles, and communicate clearly and effectively.I have tutored both in person and online, and I am comfortable with either setting. I'm confident that I can help you (or your student) achieve to the best of their ability, so please don't hesitate to get in touch!

If I could be a student the rest of my life, I definitely would be. I completed my Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education at the University of Southern Mississippi, after which I spent two years teaching middle school and high school band full-time. I then completed a Master of Music in Music Theory at the University of Oklahoma, which is when I really started to work one-on-one with students in music theory. I believe we thrive as performers when we fall in love with music. Music theory is just a way of better understanding (and thus better loving) the music we perform. In my professional life, I am also an academic life coach and advisor, as well as a graduate programs administrator. I love to write and have been published both under my own name and under a handful of other pen names. I regularly present to my local professional organizations on topics regarding student success, particularly at the graduate level.

I am currently attending Baruch College (CUNY). I am majoring in Actuarial Sciences at Baruch.Throughout my academic career, both in high school and college, I have always been passionate about math and tutoring. This past year I have also tutored younger students who were prepping for the SHSAT.From my experience I have noticed students who are struggling in math only need a certain push to keep them on track. I firmly believe with the right help, students can not only be able to solve problems and understand material but they can approach tests with confidence. Math isn't impossible and I'm here to show my students that with a serious mindset they can succeed in their tests and should have no reason to be afraid. In my spare time I enjoy watching soccer, playing soccer, and performing magic.

I graduated from Brown University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science with a focus on Children’s Development. While I was at Brown I was the president of my all-female acappella group, the Brown’sTones, I performed in a lot of theatre on campus, and I volunteered in pre-school and kindergarten classrooms.Last year I worked at a charter high school in Boston, MA that supplied students with in-school tutoring during the day. There I tutored Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Spanish and all high school levels of English. I also organized all of the clubs and activities for the school and led the choir. I would never describe myself as just a “Math and Science” or just an “English and History” person, which is why I tutored so many different subjects, but if I had to pick a favorite I would say that tutoring math is my favorite. There’s something great about knowing that an answer is 100% , beyond a shadow of a doubt, correct. If you ask any of my students they will definitely tell you that I am a fun tutor. I think a tutoring session will go exponentially better if there’s some laughter involved. I’m always down for racing against my students doing math problems or coming up with hilarious study mnemonics for upcoming tests. This past fall, I lived in Padua, Italy as an au pair for a family with a 6 year-old and an 8 year-old. I got to improve my Italian, drink delicious cappuccino with the other au pairs in the mornings while looking out over the beautiful piazzas, and travel all around Italy. I even went to the largest chocolate festival in all of Europe! Now that I’m back in the states, I work at a noted university in a lab that studies how environment and socioeconomic status affect children’s brain development. Specifically, I work on a project that studies the efficacy of HeadStart programs in New York.

Whether your student attends a Worcester Public Schools campus, a charter school, or a private institution, we can match them with a tutor familiar with their specific academic environment and local expectations.

Massachusetts has rigorous state standards, particularly in math and English language arts, and personalized 1-on-1 instruction is proven to help students master these benchmarks more effectively than classroom instruction alone. Tutors working with Worcester students focus on the specific competencies required by Massachusetts frameworks, including MCAS preparation, writing standards, and problem-solving skills that align with state expectations.

Worcester students typically seek help with math (including algebra and geometry), English language arts, test preparation for MCAS and standardized tests, and science. With Worcester's 15.1:1 average student-teacher ratio, many students benefit from the focused attention that personalized tutoring provides to fill gaps and accelerate learning in these core subjects.

The first session is an assessment and relationship-building opportunity. The tutor will learn about your student's current academic level, learning style, specific challenges, and goals—whether that's improving grades, preparing for MCAS, or building confidence in a particular subject. This personalized approach ensures the tutoring plan is tailored to your student's needs from day one.

Absolutely. MCAS is a critical benchmark for Massachusetts students, and many Worcester families seek tutoring support to help their students perform well on these assessments. Tutors work with students on test-taking strategies, content mastery, and practice problems specific to MCAS standards in math, English language arts, and science.
