When I began college, I remember struggling with tests and with time management. Being a premedical student from the very beginning meant that I was forced to learn very quickly how to overcome these challenges. My attempts to become a successful student were filled with perseverance, which became the theme of my professional endeavors. After working extremely hard to be accepted into my top choice medical school at Duke University, I again found myself in a situation where I felt under prepared and lost. Through much work and research about study skills, proper test preparation, and test taking strategies, I eventually have reached a level where I am comfortable assessing my own test readiness and how to best strengthen my academic weaknesses. I believe that through my own personal experiences, I have become a stronger life-long learner and I plan to use these skills throughout my career as I plan to stay in academic medicine to further the field of medical education.

I am glad to use my 9 years experience in teaching high school and apply it to helping students of diverse background.

I earned my bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from MIT with a minor in Management. At MIT, I was a director and teacher for the Educational Studies Program (ESP), the group that runs MIT Splash, an event where 2000+ high schoolers come to MIT to take classes from MIT students on any subject imaginable. My time in ESP got me addicted to "spreading the joy of teaching and learning".I love my work as a manufacturing consultant and enjoy spending my weekends teaching online small-group classes and tutoring students. When tutoring, I specialize in Math, Physics, English Grammar and Syntax, and Microsoft Excel since those are all skills and concepts I tutored in college and continue to use daily. Tutoring is something that has dominated a fair portion of my life. My journey started back in high school (about ten years ago) with tutoring and helping ESL and autistic children comprehend various subjects. From there I went on to tutor in numerous settings, from middle/high school after school programs to one on one tutoring.While, English and all of it's sub-categories are my specialty, I'm well versed in other facets of study as well. I have a very fluid and versatile teaching method that can accommodate students from many walks of life. I'm currently a student myself majoring in English, with a strong foundation in History and Psychology. I approach every student interaction with an open mind and empathetic verve, seeking to enrich the wellbeing of the intended.I look forward to working with you! :)

As a future special education teacher and current substitute teacher, I am excited to become a tutor with Varsity Tutors. I am currently enrolled in the MEd + Licensure special education program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and am set to begin my studies in August of 2017.My background includes working as a substitute teacher during the 2016-2017 school year for multiple districts in Columbus, OH. These districts were urban, suburban, and rural in nature. I served as a substitute teacher in both general and special education classrooms at the elementary, middle, and high school level. In addition, I accepted two long-term assignments throughout the year; one in a special needs preschool classroom, and another in a math and reading resource room at the 3rd-5th grade level.Previously, while earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology, I worked as a tutor in the athletic department at West Virginia University. I conducted both individual and small group sessions, and created written study materials for my students. In my free time, I volunteered in a special needs Transition classroom at the University, and worked at a recreation center for individuals with disabilities in the Morgantown area.I am excited to be in the Chicagoland region and work in the urban setting. My name is Megan.I am recent grad from Becker College with a degree in Applied Computer Science specializing in Cyber Security.I am passionate about all things computer and programming related, and I love being able to help others learn about these subjects.I have worked in the industry over the past year as a software engineer. Through this experience I have gained real world industry knowledge which has refined my skills.I look forward to working with more students and to help them learn and thrive in their studies.

I am a rising senior at Duke University in Durham, NC. When not passing my time sleeping outdoors waiting for assorted basketball tickets as a "Cameron Crazie," I study Evolutionary Anthropology with fortunate access to Duke's fascinating lemurs and primates. My aspiration since my matriculation at college has been to pursue medicine, and I have just recently finished piecing together my application for medical school. Naturally, having just finished studying for the MCAT, I have a particular expertise in science of all kinds ranging from Biology and Chemistry to Physics. However, having also taken many AP courses in high school, I have a thorough working knowledge in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Spanish, and Psychology. I have tutored all throughout high school and also have previous experience working with Mad Science of Long Island teaching general concepts in science to younger students of ages between 5-12 years old. In my free time, I am an avid soccer player and music fanatic (particularly alternative/independent rock). I am extremely passionate about teaching (both my brother and mother are teachers) and truly look forward to sharing some of the tools I have developed along the road with others. I know personally of the successes and, unfortunately, failures that have faced me upon my academic path and believe my down-to-earth and empathetic style makes me uniquely well-suited to help others along theirs.
