I have a college degree in Physics and a graduate degree in Biology. I love to see students gain an understanding of the material through examples related to the world around us.I have had experience teaching as a substitute from 1st through 12th grade, including many assignments with students with developmental disabilities, where I was able to work with these students more on an individual basis. I have also taught many undergraduate laboratory classes in physics and biology. These courses provide a great opportunity to work one-on-one with students who need some extra help and to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the topic being examined.I believe that students gain a better understanding and appreciation for the material when they are led to the answer through questions and examples rather than just being told how to answer the question or perform the calculation. Although I have mostly taught at the college level, I have experience teaching students at all grade levels and enjoy helping students learn regardless of their current knowledge or ability in a particular subject.I enjoy interacting with students of all ages and helping them understand a subject, especially when they are having difficulties. I think many students who dislike school or a particular subject because they are not good at it or do not get it. The reason they are not good at it is likely because they have not spent the time or had the individual attention they need to be successful. I enjoy being able to spend the time to answer questions and ultimately help the student get to the answer on their own. When they can do this, they gain a much deeper appreciation for the thing they are studying. It is also great to see a student come to an understanding of the topic after they are given some information or strategies they did not have before.

I currently teach 6th grade math in the Bronx. I have been tutoring since I was 16 years old. I have tutored a wide variety of math subject including but no limited to: algebra, geometry, and statistics. For me, the best part is rolling up our sleeves and working through any obstacle. I have been on both sides of the tutoring table, I know what it's like to struggle through the content and I am confident the best way to success is to dedicate time and energy. Everybody has their own way of learning, in order to be successful I want toIdentify how each students learns (visual, repetition, step by step)Identify and practice missing prerequisite knowledgeProvide appropriate support and practice for mastery and confidenceBased on my experience in tutoring and teaching, the best way to learn something is to be allowed to ask any questions on anything and work through it with one on one attention. I have seen what 10 minutes minutes of one on one instruction can do in terms of clearing up any misconceptions in my class.I graduated from SUNY College at Brockport in 2012 with a BS in Finance and minor in Economics. Currently I am enrolled in a Master's program to obtain my teaching credentials in 2016. My favorite subjects to tutor are algebra and calculus because the concepts can be applied to just about anything. Good skills in algebra lead to great skills in calculus where it gets fun to model and apply. In my free time, I like to watch and play soccer, basketball, flag football and swim.

My name is Evelyn; I am 24 years old. I was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala and I grew up in Southern California. I graduated high school a year early through a combination of hard work, extra classes before and after school as well as online classes. I am currently a full-time student at Full Sail University pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design; I plan to graduate in the fall of 2019. I currently work for Favor, and I tutor several students on the side. I have a broad range of experience tutoring. I have worked with a plethora of ages from 4-67 years-old, and I've tutored one-on-one and also in small to large group settings up to 12 people.Usually, I tailor my sessions with students to their immediate needs, everyone is different, and everyone learns in their own unique way. Getting to know the student's learning style is usually the first priority then it is whatever the student needs from there. For test prep, I go for a textbook and follow it, tailoring the material to my own supplemental materials that I turn into activities depending on the student.

Worcester has six school districts serving over 26,500 students across 60 schools, and Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who understand the different curricula and standards across these districts. Whether your student attends a Worcester Public Schools campus, a charter school, or a private institution, we can match them with a tutor familiar with their specific academic environment and local expectations.

Massachusetts has rigorous state standards, particularly in math and English language arts, and personalized 1-on-1 instruction is proven to help students master these benchmarks more effectively than classroom instruction alone. Tutors working with Worcester students focus on the specific competencies required by Massachusetts frameworks, including MCAS preparation, writing standards, and problem-solving skills that align with state expectations.

Worcester students typically seek help with math (including algebra and geometry), English language arts, test preparation for MCAS and standardized tests, and science. With Worcester's 15.1:1 average student-teacher ratio, many students benefit from the focused attention that personalized tutoring provides to fill gaps and accelerate learning in these core subjects.

The first session is an assessment and relationship-building opportunity. The tutor will learn about your student's current academic level, learning style, specific challenges, and goals—whether that's improving grades, preparing for MCAS, or building confidence in a particular subject. This personalized approach ensures the tutoring plan is tailored to your student's needs from day one.

Absolutely. MCAS is a critical benchmark for Massachusetts students, and many Worcester families seek tutoring support to help their students perform well on these assessments. Tutors work with students on test-taking strategies, content mastery, and practice problems specific to MCAS standards in math, English language arts, and science.
