My mission as a tutor is to help students grow using methods based on their needs and their style of learning. Every student is different, and as such, they should receive attention based on those differences. My job is to help them fully discover their style of learning and use it to their advantage.

Currently, I attend Victor Senior High and will begin my education at Tulane University in the fall, studying both biomedical engineering and computer science. My past experiences tutoring both younger students and peers allow me to develop a unique approach to help students facing any type of challenge in their subject area. I personally enjoy tutoring math and science, and they have both become passions that I will continue to pursue in my education. I believe a strong foundation in both areas is fundamental in scholastic success, so I often break down subjects to their roots in order to help a student succeed from the ground level up to most advanced topics.Additionally, I enjoy tutoring ACT/SAT preparation, because I believe the right foundation and study tactics can make all the difference in performance on both of these exams, ideally saving students hours of studying material that may be repetitive or unnecessary. My tutoring style is very flexible, as I aim to discover how each student learns and cater to their unique style. I'm always up for the challenge of changing my methods of instruction and breaking down topics to foster a deeper understanding of a subject. On a different note, I generally spend my spare time playing lacrosse or running outdoors when possible. I also play the violin with a school quartet, and teach lessons to beginning students working through the Suzuki program.

I have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from MCPHS University in Worchester, MA, and a BA in Computer Science from Rhode Island College. I graduated both colleges Cum Laude and at both of them I was helping my fellow students as a volunteer tutor in various subjects of math and science. For the last 2 years I have been homeschooling my middle school aged daughter and as an instructor I have learned a lot from working with her. My previous teaching experience includes teaching History of Arts at the Childrens School of Arts in Kharkov, Ukraine. (My first BA from Ukraine is in theater journalism). I have always loved to learn and teach, and was successful at both. I strongly believe in the value of education. I am an avid reader and a big admirer of the British show Doctor Who. All my life I have loved dogs, I kept many of them and presently I am enjoying the company of my golden retriever called Oromis.

In high school, I struggled with Spanish all four years and when I applied to college I challenged myself to give Spanish just one shot. Spanish finally clicked for me and I have never looked back. That experience allows my students and tutoring clients to relate to me.My career as a Spanish teacher began in 1994 at a local area high school and I have demonstrated my teaching ability to many students and adults including preschoolers within my church to police officers in my community.My interest beyond the classroom setting include traveling abroad, collecting Barbie dolls and cooking and entertaining guests. I also am an avid world news watcher..My tutoring strategies are to establish a great rapport with the student, assess his/her learning style, give students opportunity to ask as many questions he or she needs, build their confidence as a language student and be an overall support system for the student.My teaching philosophy toward language is that language is a unique and important part of our culture and each child has a unique approach to language acquisition.

In my experience as a tutor, I've always tried to make lessons engaging and fun for my students. I believe that students learn best when they experience knowledge for themselves, while receiving guidance and encouragement from their teacher. I truly enjoy tutoring and want to help my students achieve academic success. I'm especially passionate about helping struggling readers.
