Session Summaries by Latin Tutors

Latin Tutoring review by Marcella in Prospect Heights, IL
The student and I began our weekend session on a good note as he shared his higher test scores with me. He received a B on his Ch. 9 re-take we prepared for last week and a C on his Ch. 11 test covering new material. We spent this session building a strategy for the last few weeks of class and preparing him for his last test re-take (Ch. 10) this week. Our primary focus was the preterite verb tense, concentrating on unfamiliar verbs in the vocabulary assigned. Just since we began working together a couple of weeks ago I can see an improvement in the student's competence with the preterite tense. As we reviewed his original Ch. 10 test, he admitted to me that at the time of the exam he really didn't understand it and I am pleased to see the quick development of his understanding. In our discussion of study strategy, the student informed me that his cumulative semester exam will mainly be vocabulary-based. I encouraged him to continue with his flash cards as we have done with the last couple of chapters as that will only aid in his cumulative preparation. In our second weekly session tomorrow I expect to pick up where we left off and continue to make good headway as he enters into end-of-the-year studying.

Latin Tutoring review by Elizabeth in Prospect Heights, IL
The student had homework to rewrite in Spanish using the possessive adjectives (su, sus, de). After reviewing the example, I worked with the student on the ten sentences that he had to rewrite. The student improved with each sentence and by the end of the ten sentences the student had a better understanding on how to use the possessive adjectives properly. I continued to ask the student to translate sentences and phrases. It was a productive session.

Latin Tutoring review by Clarisa in Prospect Heights, IL
The student reported he got an "A" on his test last week. His class started a new chapter covering seasons, weather, climate and appropriate clothing for different climates. I explained the seasons and climate changes. He repeated the seasons and the two verbs used to express climate: "hace" and "esta." I also taught him the adjectives to express "very cold," "very hot" "a little hot," etc. He also needs to learn direct and indirect object pronouns. I wrote out a simple sentence and explained the grammar involved. He then wrote sentences I dictated to him. He understood the grammar and wrote the sentences with no problem. Next the student completed his homework packet. Finally, I had him take a quiz online using direct object pronouns, and he got 100%.
