English Tutoring review by Keh Farn in Prospect Heights, IL
Today we read her book, Helping Mom. We read through it, did a spelling test, read through it again, looked at words she didn't know, and then read through it one last time. Her speed improved tremendously by the third read-through. Tomorrow we will continue to practice in the same way with her reading.

English Tutoring review by Alice in Prospect Heights, IL
Today the student completed his sentence-writing homework and reading comprehension worksheet. We also reviewed sight words for his sight words quiz tomorrow. The reading comprehension worksheet was completed based on his book from the classroom library. The worksheet focused on sequencing of events. His reading comprehension skills were strong, and he was able to pinpoint the beginning, middle, and end events. He was able to use the book and to sound out the words to spell some words on his own, which was an improvement. The sentence writing homework assignment was about being a good citizen. I asked him what citizen meant, what it meant to be a good citizen, and what it meant to be a bad citizen. The sentence assignment asked for 3 sentences on how to be a good citizen in the classroom. He was able to think of the sentences on his own, and able to spell some simpler words if we said them slowly. We spent the second half of the session reviewing for his sight quiz. I gave him a whiteboard on which to write words that I prompted. I said the word out loud and tapped it out, similar to what his quiz will be like. After spelling all six, we reviewed them together. At the end of the session he was able to spell the 6 sight words!

English Tutoring review by Patricia in Prospect Heights, IL
The student and I worked on spelling and reading this session. She does very well when practicing spelling words. If she gets a word wrong, she is quick to study the word and spell it again correctly. After she correctly spelled all the words, we moved on to reading. She has made lots of improvement in terms of reading. She read aloud from the book Annie. When she came across a word she did not know, she attempted the word first before looking for help. After reading, she was able to answer comprehension questions and make inferences from the text.
