Tonight's session with Student 1 and Student 2 began with them taking the Reading Diagnostic #2. Both girls had scored a 65% on the first reading diagnostic and I wanted to measure their progress thus far. Student 2 was able to take the assessment and she scored a 77%, significant improvement, but I'd like to get them closer to 90% or more. Student 1 was in the middle of her diagnostic, but experienced a glitch on her end so she will retake it another time, but before our next session next week. We then moved on to practice; some of the math skills they wanted to practice that were highlighted as weaknesses in the first math diagnostic they took. On math diagnostic #1, they both scored an 82%. For the remainder of the session, both students practiced solving problems dealing with fractions and probability, two of the three areas in math they needed to develop further. At the end, of the session, I assigned them a probability mini assessment to practice with.

I proctored a paper practice test for her. She was a little nervous about the timed element, but she made it through all of the sections. She thought that the quantitative section was easier on the paper practice test than on the diagnostics that she has been taking. She felt like it was not as scary as she thought it would be.

In our session yesterday the student and I spent a bit of time on various test subjects. We started with reading comprehension, and he did well on these. We worked on eliminating obvious wrong answers to ease the process of choosing the best from among the remaining. On the "main idea" type questions, we worked with choosing statements that were true of a portion of the passage, but not comprehensively summarizing the whole. Next we worked through some math problems, both quantitative comparison and basic algebra. For the QC, we worked on discerning when it would be necessary to find a precise answer and when an approximation would suffice. For algebra problems, he worked the most with percentage problems, and I left him with a couple of these type of problems to do for next time.
