HSPT Tutoring review by Dina in West Jordan, UT
Today, we reviewed the problems I assigned the student for homework. Then, we spent the rest of the session reviewing properties of functions. We focused on the definition of a function, domain and range, horizontal and vertical asymptotes, inverse functions, and determining if a function was even, odd, or neither.

Today, we went over the inequalities, geometry, and word problems practice sets I had customized. Going over these practice sets also gave us the opportunity to review content from those areas. For homework, he is to finish Exam #2 in the prep book all in one sitting. He is to rip out his answer sheet and practice taking time gridding in his answers. He can take a five minute break after each timed section. There is no homework due tomorrow because we will be going over the new format for the SAT essay and thoroughly breaking down how to approach it. I also emailed his mom two formulas that will be helpful for him to memorize because they are not provided on the real exam.

Today, we went over the last couple of questions on the calculator math session and reviewed the student's answers for writing/language, as well as worked through the passages from section one. I am assigning another practice SAT test to be completed for the upcoming week.

HSPT Tutoring review by Erinn in West Jordan, UT
Today, we went over the math sections of the practice test the student had completed over the previous weekend. She scored a 700 on math, and we went over the 8 questions she had gotten wrong and worked through them together. We spent the second hour of the session practicing similar questions to the ones that she had gotten wrong on the practice test. This is our session working on Math, but it appears that she has a strong foundation, and we just need to work on building her confidence in deciphering what the test makers are trying to ask with some of the tricky questions. I have asked her to complete another practice test over the weekend so that we can work through it during our session Monday.

HSPT Tutoring review by Steven in West Jordan, UT
Today, we went over the practice test for the math section. The student showed improvement in several areas that we covered during our sessions, which was great. His greatest improvement was on word problems in Algebra. I did notice a trend in some of his wrong answers. He has been struggling with intersecting lines and equations for shapes. The latter is an Algebra 2 topic, and it requires memorization. So, it makes sense he hasn't memorized the certain equations yet, and he should get some extra review during the school year. Before the next session, I want him to review intersecting lines problems (I am sending a link via email) and take a reading quiz.

Today, we went over the SAT math (with calculator) practice test that the student had done. We focussed on solving problems on topics she had difficulty with when she took the test. The student is hardworking and wants to do all that is required to get a good score on the test. I assigned her a math (no calculator) math section to complete before coming in for her session on Thursday. I see progress with practice during each session.
