Session Summaries by Physiology Tutors

Physiology Tutoring review by Noah in Atlanta, GA
In this session, the student and I covered buffer solutions. Most of the session was spent explaining what a buffer solution was (in terms of definitions), conjugating acids and bases, and understanding and setting up ICE tables to solve for the concentrations at equilibrium. While it seemed a bit confusing at first to her, she was quick apply and grasp the concept once a few problems were worked on. In addition, she was able to go further and apply the concepts to more difficult questions I asked.

Today's session was focused on practicing past AP exam free response questions about electrochemistry. The problems we covered spanned most all the various situations and problem types that are presented on the AP test. Some of these included: writing half reactions and assigning electrodes, calculating standard cell potential or half-reaction reduction potential, finding free energy and Keq from the cell potential, calculating mass/volume of reaction product in electrolytic cells based on current and many more. Both students seemed to have a solid understanding of the material, and I was really only needed to correct a few minor detail mistakes through the course of working some of the more lengthy problems. I am looking forward to next session.

This session went well. We worked on the student's homework together, explaining the concepts as we figured out the answer. I told her to read her chapters regardless of what we got done, to make sure no details were left out (I don't have the textbook so I can't guarantee what content is in it). I will be checking in with her later to see if she needs any further explanation on her remaining questions. I also asked her to let me know how she did on her exam when she gets her grade back.

The student and I covered electric potential, electric field interaction between point charges, and simple circuit concepts beginning with Ohm's Law. He went through the homework very quickly, and he worked with how to find the Electric Field inside a Gaussian Sphere. I had him do a couple of extra problems concerning that.

Electronic Configuration, Ionic Bond, Chemical Reactions, and Balancing an Equation. The student did make notes and complete the assignment that I had given him. He has extra practice questions to work on until we meet again.
