...follow the Socratic method which involves a shared dialogue between teacher and students. The teacher leads by posing thought-provoking questions. Students actively engage by asking questions of their own. The discussion goes back and forth. This promotes critical thinking and allows me to explore the underlying beliefs that shape the students views and opinions. I believe in staying with my students till they are confidant enough to take up the problems independently even after the...

OAT Physics Tutoring FAQ
Potential optometry students often feel right at home in a biology class or a chemistry lab. The connection between the structure and function of the human eye and the concepts covered in these classes is clear and direct. Many of these same students, however, question why they are enrolled in a physics class. The connection of class material to the practice of optometry may not seem as clear, and finding the time of flight of a projectile or direction of a magnetic field can seem to be without purpose. Consider, however, the importance of physical principles for an optometrist developing a lens system to correct astigmatism, or calculating the tiny focal distance of a new contact lens. Upon reflection, in fact, physics is critical to the practice of any medical field, especially optometry. This is why the problems presented on the Optometry Admission Test's Physics section can seem so complicated.
The demands that the OAT places on optometry applicants are to ensure that only students who are committed to understanding the basic scientific principles of the human body's structure and function make it past an admissions committee. Given the importance of physics in the practice of optometry, the OAT Physics section is understandably examined by admissions committees. Just this subscore can be the difference between making a great impression on a committee and ending up on a waitlist. You can't afford to entrust your preparation for this section to any generic resource. Instead, you need to maximize your chances for success, and personal OAT Physics tutoring can help you do so. Varsity Tutors can help you connect with qualified OAT tutors in your area who have excelled on their own OAT, and can offer you the opportunity to build on their success. Instead of starting from scratch, you can use the strategies and tips that your tutor has perfected to accelerate your own preparation significantly. You can work with your tutor to maximize your investment of time and effort. Instead of spending precious hours in a crowded review class covering material that you already understand, you can focus on your weaknesses. You may be surprised at how effective personal OAT Physics tutoring can be when all of your study time is spent addressing the topics and concepts that you find to be most confusing. This custom-tailored approach can help you to save time, stress, and anxiety, as well as to post the best score you can on test day.
By working with a private OAT Physics tutor, you are able to benefit from a customized lesson plan that has been tailored to fit your needs. No matter what your overall proficiency level is, or what your academic goals may be, there is a tutor who is qualified at helping you. One of the biggest benefits of working in a one-on-one tutoring scenario is being able to study under the guidance of someone who is committed to helping you achieve success. Furthermore, since private lessons are centered on you, your tutor will do whatever it takes to ensure that your learning experience is comfortable and convenient. This means that you can study at a time that best suits your schedule, including during the weekend or at night. Recent OAT Physics Tutoring Session Notes
This session mostly focused on reviewing the work that the student did for homework. This consisted in three sections. First we worked through questions from the sentence equivalent section, focusing on some vocabulary building techniques. Following this, we reviewed absolute values and inequalities. These were minor on the whole, and where they were repetitive, we were able to address the root problem very quickly. Finally, we had to spend some extra time on percentages, which I then reassigned. I believe that things will progress better in this regard for our session on Friday.
The student and I met for another session of tutoring. In this session we worked on percents, prime factorization, and exponents. She is progressing very well. She is moving through the book rapidly and is able to pick up the concepts with ease. Usually after a bit of help she is able to solve all of the questions by herself. She has not officially set a test date, but I think she will be ready to take the test very soon.
We spent the first half of the session on math and the second half on verbal. The student is very quickly reacquiring the math fundamentals necessary to perform well, and his verbal ability is outstanding. The improvement he has shown in just four sessions is remarkable, and I expect him to surpass his own stated goals for the exam.
I had previous designed a Percents Practice Problems worksheet and sent it to the student to complete for this session. He did an excellent job with the simple percent problems. We began the session by working on word problems. He has improved significantly with percents. We then moved on to the Fill-in-the-blank questions in the verbal reasoning section. We spent an hour working through various exercises mostly working on dissecting new words given recognizable roots and familiar words. After that, we shifted gears back to quantitative reasoning and worked through sample practice problems, thus reviewing a variety of the topics we have worked on for the past few months.
We covered the basic chapters of organic chemistry and did some practice problems. It appears as though we will be able to proceed better with ochem. We are going to find the student a source of practice problems.
The student and I started by working through some of the difficult number theory homework problems that I gave her last session. We then finished our review of geometry, including four sided figures, three dimensional figures, and coordinate geometry. Next class we will begin to review commonly tested sentence correction rules.
