I also try to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. This is when a lot of the fun happens!My hobbies include reading, running, spending time at the beach, and hanging out with my kids. I tutored college students at SLU for 5 years, covering allied health sciences (biology, chemistry, anatomy/physiology) and all physical therapy coursework. Since graduation, I have taught young children, worked in admissions, volunteered teaching time in math and English to high school students, and raised a family. I am certified to help people of all ages with their organization demands: can you organize your work day more effectively, how can my child balance all her activities and achieve in school? I tutor a broad range of subjects but I most enjoy math and writing. In both math and writing there's room for discussion. Unlike the classroom approach, in tutoring we get to take the time to discuss "how and why." How did you get that answer? "How" leads us to thinking and discussing strategies and a general openness to learning. "Why" helps us think more critically about our decisions. Katie has a bachelor's in speech-language pathology, a master's in special education-deaf education, and working towards a doctorate degree in special education with a focus on policy and administration. She also teaches teacher preparation courses at the collegiate level. Her research interests are in universal design, assistive technology, and accessible educational materials with aiding in student access to grade-level curriculum.

I am originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, but have traveled and lived all across the country.
