I believe that people can learn anything if they work hard enough and have a good teacher. Relating subjects to a student's interests allows the student to be fully engaged and want to learn the material. From there, you can teach the student how to critically think through a problem so they can solve any problem or learn any material that comes their way.

I have experience tutoring at all levels, and one of my primary focus is to incorporate dialogic discourse into all of my tutoring sessions. This is a special type of teaching philosophy which focuses on allowing students to reach the answers rather than just showing them the right solution.
