Session Summaries by Geometry Tutors

Geometry Tutoring review by Matthew in Boston, MA
The student's quick to grasp concepts concerning numbers and, is quite spatially aware. The concepts he's having difficulty with are ones concerning irrational numbers and more abstract mathematics. Next week we'll be looking at his older exam to see if we can improve his grade.

Geometry Tutoring review by Joseph in Boston, MA
The student's next unit covers inequalities, with particular focus on applying inequalities to corresponding parts of triangles. Before our session, the student had already memorized all of the postulates and theorems from the chapter, so most of our time was spent on practice. This was our first time doing proofs in a while, and the student seemed a little rusty, but I think he shook most of that rust off as we progressed.

Geometry Tutoring review by Caleb in Boston, MA
The student is very capable in math in general - there are just a few concepts in geometry that are difficult for him. I think he will have no trouble excelling in geometry once he learns to visualize the figures he is working with.

Geometry Tutoring review by Ashley in Boston, MA
In today's session, the student and I started by finding the geometric probability using circles and line numbers. This section was very straightforward, and she had a strong understanding of all of it. In fact, she was working on her homework without my help; all I did was check her answers. Next, we started (but didn't finish) a chapter review that covered past topics such as interior and exterior angles, area, and perimeter of various shapes. Although we didn't get a chance to go over every problem, the student knew how to do everything really well.

Geometry Tutoring review by Meghan in Boston, MA
Topics Covered: identifying faces, vertices, and edges of 3-dimensional shapes; finding surface area and volume of 3-d shapes. Progress Achieved: the student can now identify the difference between surface area and volume and can successfully find both. She can identify faces, vertices, and edges of 3-d shapes.

Geometry Tutoring review by Amy in Boston, MA
We worked through the current homework problems for area of circles and sectors, then practiced higher difficulty problems from all three sections they've covered so far in this chapter (including areas of triangles, parallelograms, rhombi, and kites). The student was doing well but will be verifying expectations for formatting with his teacher.
