We completed our review of the material for the upcoming test (but not the final). The topics were confidence intervals for means, standard deviations and proportions and hypothesis tests for all three. The formulas are quite simple but the difficulty comes from deciding which one to choose so we spent the time talking about why you use a Z over a T test or why you use a left, right or two tailed p-value.

The student and I worked through linear regression analysis, slope confidence intervals using the Student t distribution with n-2 degrees of freedom, and inference tests using slope = 0 null hypotheses. The main issue for the student during this session in my opinion was that this chapter combined material from much earlier in the year, some of which maybe he had forgotten early on in the session, with confidence interval and hypothesis concepts that we have more recently studied. The student also had trouble identifying variables early on in the regression analysis, but by the end he was able to do all the necessary calculations and analysis required in the chapter.

We continued to review in preparation for the AP exam. The student had done the sample multiple choice problems from the units we reviewed last week, so she first asked for help with the few by which she had been confused. We then moved on to such topics as probability, random variables, and confidence intervals for means and proportions. Most material is coming back to her pretty well, although I'll be refreshing my own memory before our next session in order to go through some topics with which she feels less familiar: binomial and geometric distributions, and determining sample size.
