Elementary Math Tutoring review by Brandy in Shorewood, IL
We worked on her homework together, and we did some practice simplifying fractions. She mentioned that (although she has gotten a 90% on the last two tests) her math grade went down on her last performance report, so we will still be focusing on grade improvement and test prep moving forward.

The student and I covered spelling and math this session. We went through her spelling words together before I quizzed her. I read the words aloud and she wrote them on a dry erase board. We went over a few of the words again, some because she used capital letters instead of lowercase letters. After she understood all the words, we played a math game. The game was set up like a board game where you moved your piece as many spots as the equation on a card told you. For example, if the card said "4+2" you can move forward 6 spaces. She really enjoys the game, so it's great math practice for her.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Taryn in Shorewood, IL
This was the first meeting this student. He has a test on Wednesday on input/ output charts and word problems. He breezed through the input/ output and is really good at the algebraic equations. I think the most challenge lies in interpreting word problems into a number sentence. I made up some practice word problems based on the homework examples and we worked them out together. I think if he learns to break down the problem into workable bits that would really help him to feel more confident in solving them. We tried to slow down and work on turning the words in the problem into a number sentence and to make sure that he is writing down the entire expression instead of just writing down an answer. I left the word problems I made up for practice and I am going to used to old work that I was given to make up some more practice for him.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Joyce in Shorewood, IL
Today we went over the unit circle and how to manipulate it for certain problems. We also went over how to graph sin and cos functions, how to find the period, amplitude, and intervals. We went over how to write an equation given a cos graph and a sin graph. Later we reviewed how to translate graphs x units up and down and how to show the translation on a graph. I left her with a chapter test to take for our next session.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Pieta in Shorewood, IL
The student completed all of her homework. She didn't complete it using the mental math (using 10's), so we reviewed a few of them to hone her skill. Then we took the concept of estimation to front-end estimating using her text. We defined necessary terms, followed examples, and practiced. By the end, she was fluent, especially in the addition at the end of each problem. We had time for a few sunshine math problems (XI, #'s 6-8).

The student and I worked on algebra II today to prepare for his final exam tomorrow. He needed to review some concepts on rational functions as well as conic sections more thoroughly.
