As an educator, I believe all our children, are all our children. Every child should and can have the opportunity to learn. I enjoy teaching in a differentiated style while layering and scaffolding the concepts being taught. I also believe in teaching to three senses so that learning can be retained. As an educator and person, I believe we should speak the language of respect, and provide a safe atmosphere where true learning can happen.

Mount Vernon WISC IV Tutoring FAQ
The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children fourth edition (WISC IV) exam is primarily designed to provide teachers, administrators, and parents with an objective evaluation of a child's innate reasoning capabilities. A strong performance can give a child the esteemed status of a gifted youngster, granting him or her access to more advanced, challenging, and appropriate academic stimulation. Available to those students aged six to sixteen, the WISC IV exam provides a four-pronged analysis of cognitive skill and ability - encompassing verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed - as well as a composite, full-scale IQ score. If your child has demonstrated exceptional skill in his or her academic pursuits and you are interested in gifted programs, preparing to take the WISC IV exam can provide your child with the appropriate testing expectations and material experience to avoid any confusion or anxiety that could plague his or her performance on test day.
Varsity Tutors can help you connect with high-quality WISC IV tutoring to help your child perform to his or her optimal potential on this important evaluation. The merits of the WISC IV evaluation allow educators to identify any discrepancies between a student's classroom performance and his or her inherent cognitive abilities. Some children have developed advanced abilities to the extent that grade-appropriate standard education is simply boring and banal, and while their participation in the classroom may appear disinterested or disruptive, a strong performance on the WISC IV can open the door to educational opportunities that can allow them to thrive. WISC IV tutoring is designed to be customized to your student's unique academic situation. Lessons are developed around your child's unique set of interests and concerns, helping to keep him or her cognitively engaged throughout review. By working to develop familiarity with exam material and providing an outlet for creative and cerebral expression, your tutor can provide a highly stimulating environment. Your tutor will work to foster an open, safe environment in which your child feels comfortable asking questions and expressing themselves. Oftentimes, reviewing for the WISC IV simply involves exposing students to standardized testing procedures and formats. Private WISC IV tutoring, however, could help your child become invested in the exam's results. By presenting material in a way that complements your child's fascinations, a tutor can create a positive learning experience to build your child's investment and interest in the exam itself.
Private WISC IV tutors can help your child prepare for each section of the exam so that, come exam day, they are prepared to tackle the exam in its entirety. Your tutor will help your child prepare for the verbal comprehension portion of the test by reviewing vocabulary words, general knowledge questions, and examples of words that are similar and dissimilar. They will prepare practice arithmetic questions and picture graphs so your child is ready for the perceptual reasoning section on the exam. The working memory portion of the WISC IV features questions that serve to demonstrate the test taker's ability to memorize numbers and patterns, and your private tutor has an arsenal of strategies and tips for these questions that they can share with your child. After working with a private WISC IV tutor, there is no section of the exam that your child will not be prepared to successfully master.
If your child has the potential to qualify for a gifted program, don't leave his or her academic future to chance. Allow a private tutor to help your child present his or her greatest effort on exam day. Recent Mount Vernon WISC IV Tutoring Session Notes
The student had no trouble with her assigned exam science passages, nor with the science passages we looked at together today; if anything will improve her science score, it will be pacing. We reviewed the exam writing section today also, discussing the format, grading system, and rubric, and looking over some sample essays.
The student and I worked on his "voice" today, trying to get him to recognize when an error is occurring in a sentence by reading it aloud and hearing his voice say the wrong thing. He has a great education in the technical rules of English, but hasn't had much opportunity to put it into practice until now. I'm sure when we shake off the rust, he'll be much faster.
First, we went over questions that the client missed on her practice test. Based on those questions, we talked about what types of questions she missed the most and how to approach those questions. We then went over topics in geometry and probability and did example problems for each.
Today we went through the various vocabulary and math sections, doing a few questions from each as a diagnostic. Then we talked about the tests, the difference between the formats and the scoring, and did a full 30 minute quantitative reasoning section to start off. I think the student is in very good shape to start!
Today we covered some more math questions. We then worked through a science section from a practice test, and finished up with some of the harder math questions from a math section. I get the sense from our first two sessions that the student knows most of the math material, but only has a few minor holes in her knowledge. She also needs practice with some of the harder question types, but overall I think she will get to the level that she wants to be at for the math section. On the science section, she did very well on the section we worked on - I told her to work on a practice section on her own to see if she is able to do well on the section in the time allotted.
Intro session: we discussed some education goals, test taking goals, and looked over her different score reports together. We then worked through an English section and a reading section together, untimed, just to see where her strengths and weaknesses are.
