I really love to learn, and I hope I can share this excitement with everyone I tutor. The best learning happens when both the teacher and the student approach the topic with an open and curious mind--the second we think we "know everything" learning stagnates and life as a whole becomes dull.

Im currently an undergraduate bioengineering student at UIC minoring in economics and set to begin graduate work next fall. Before transferring to UIC I attended Augustana College and pursued degrees in physics and environmental studies. I hold excellent interpersonal and math skills and am good at explaining as well as doing math problems which in my opinion is somewhat of a rarity among science and math teachers. Throughout my youth I coached a swim team and have always gained an immense satisfaction from helping others. Tutoring is a win-win situation for both parties. The student becomes fluent and develops interest in a subject they have struggled with in the past and I gain from helping them improve and succeed. I like to make learning fun and strive to make the information relatable to my students. This way we can become excited about the subjects which makes learning that much easier. Mostly I am interested in tutoring math and math-related subjects including economics. Throughout sessions I will always try to convey exactly how important it is to learn the information, because like it or not, even if the student is not interested in learning, I want to convey that in life we often are forced into tasks that are not always enjoyable. Whats important is to persevere and understand that there is no other option but to complete the task or learn the material and we can only gain from giving it our best effort. During free time I enjoy reading The Economist magazine, playing table tennis and badminton, and eating Thai food. Thank you for your time.

I like being a tutor because I like to help students to achieve their goals, and to have better understanding of topics that will help them to advance in their studies. I am good for this job because I have patience, I know different ways to explain concepts, and I know the subjects that I am trying to explain. I have been a tutor in the past and achieved good results from students. I have experience with math and science subjects since I studied Biology, Engineering and Administration at a University level. I graduated from Yale in 2015 with a degree in Anthropology. Next year, I will be attending Stanford Medical School to pursue my MD and hopefully begin a career as a pediatrician. For as long as I can remember, I have loved math and science. Now, as a tutor, I am extremely excited to share my passion for these subjects with other students. Though math and science can often be intimidating, I hope to show how approachable these subjects really are. Everyone can succeed in math and science if they want!In addition to teaching content, I am happy to work with students on note-taking and strong study habits. By focusing on these skills, I believe students can improve in every subject and better prepare themselves for college and beyond!

I recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with degrees in chemical engineering and math and computer science. After a summer of relaxing, I am planning on entering medical school at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the fall. Throughout high school and college, I have fallen in love with tutoring and seeing so many new faces in the process. I especially love to tutor in math, chemistry, MCAT, and chemical engineering topics, and have experience tutoring students of all ages - from elementary school to fellow college students. When I am not tutoring or in school, I am an avid lifter and love to bake with friends!

My goal as a tutor is to help you understand material by building a solid foundation on which to expand your knowledge. As a current medical student, I know how frustrating it is to struggle through material-- I hate memorizing things, I found reading textbooks tedious, and I lost interest in things I didn't understand. So, in order to be a successful student and future physician, I developed some great learning tactics that I want to pass on to you!The Game Plan:Since every student is different, I will spend some time getting to know you and your goals so that we can work effectively together. Think of me as your study buddy instead of your tutor! I study with my peers by talking through material while incorporating whiteboards and visual aids (pictures, flow charts, tables, graphs). By starting with broad concepts and narrowing toward high-yield details, we promote deeper and more thorough understanding of the material. Teach-back methods help test understanding, identify areas of weakness, and foster critical thinking. Practice questions reinforce and refresh material, build test taking skills, and promote confidence. Above all, this is about your academic success- so we can (and will) adjust to what fits your needs.About Me:I am a medical student at Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. I am originally from the Washington, DC area. I received a BS in Neuroscience from Bucknell University and was a post-bacc researcher at the NIH for 3 years. I have a younger brother who studies marine biology and is a professional photographer on the side. I have a savannah cat named Cleo (after the Egyptian queen).
