AP Chemistry Tutor • +7 Subjects

I received a BA with honors in Chemistry from Grinnell College in 2011 and received my PhD in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2017. I was a student mentor in organic chemistry during my junior and senior years at Grinnell. Then, at UW Madison I was a teaching assistant for general and physical chemistry and taught summer outreach courses for high school students. After finishing my PhD work in December 2016, I served as a visiting faculty member at Cornell College in Mount Vernon Iowa. During the Spring 2017 semester I taught general chemistry, organic chemistry lab and conducted physical chemistry research with a student. When I was growing up I wanted to know the composition of the materials in the world around me and why a given material had particular properties. I found chemistry had the answers to my questions. Now I am inspired by how chemistry can be used to enable green and renewable energy sources. Chemistry allows us to connect the abstract and strange world of atoms and molecules to everyday applications. As a student, my learning was enhanced by constantly asking for clarification and attempting to craft my own explanation. As a tutor, I ask students to explain their thinking so I can find their confusion or misconception. After providing new information and examples I ask students to demonstrate their new understanding with practice problems to make sure my explanations made sense.Outside of chemistry I enjoy playing and following sports. I ran track and cross country in high school and college. I now enjoy playing ultimate frisbee and soccer.

Seeking to become a tutor in an online environment, collaborative, detail-oriented and a team player. Adaptive and inquisitive to learn new skills, I have managed to work my way through the challenging and demanding nature of my job which requires analytical skills, technical knowledge and ability to deliver work on short notices.I am a graduate from the University of Connecticut where I received my Bachelor of arts degree in Secondary Spanish Education and my Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction.I currently teach 6th grade however I also tutor Spanish levels 1-5. I love learning and teaching about the Spanish language and culture.I am passionate about helping students because I am fascinated by their growth and development. It is rewarding to see that I have made an impact on someone when I see the light go on when they understand material. My teaching philosophy and tutoring style is all about helping the needs of the student. Basically catering to students strengths and struggles. Being able to give them a voice in their learning but also having an observant eye on their progress. I strongly believe that all students deserve an equal opportunity to learn and grow.

The passion for teaching and educating, helping new generation to set up their future goal was always a cherished dream for me. When I started my research career as molecular biologist, hours of hours while spending my time in research laboratory to analyze a tiny molecule and their activity to change completely the effect of a huge molecule, gave me enormous joy of knowing the hidden mystery of human life and the environment. I realized, if spending little time on research can give me this huge accomplishment, then being a teacher when I shall be sharing my experience, story to my students and co-relate their university curriculum with my research experience and my way of teaching, how deeply they will be able to clarify their fundamental basis to establish a strong and deep knowledge in their mind and thus help them to set their future career path. As a teacher, I believe that my main duty will be to provide knowledgeable examples directly related to the teaching topic , how strongly help them to understand and clarify their mind while taking their examination than rather just remembering word by word and write.I believe, as a teacher I always focused myself on helping students to retain their complete interest on the concerned teaching topics. In my past teaching experience I have seen that when a good teaching helps students to keep their interest on topics, they were more interested to research on different references on a particular topic and thus that helped them to score good in examination. This not only helped my students but also I feel benefited me teaching them as well. It helped me to revise my own subjects as well as focusing my goal to start my PhD education again. I worked as teaching and research assistant in past and from my experience I understood that if a teacher does have both teaching and research experiences, are the better teacher to take care of his/her students understanding on different teaching topics. Thus I believe, I might be a good fit for being a teacher and that is also I considered my future goal to be a professor.

I am a junior majoring in Applied Biological Sciences at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. My background consists primarily of mentorship and tutoring for high-schoolers and college freshmen. I am currently helping two honors faculty members pioneer a writing tutoring program to aid the freshmen class with their required honors course, the Human Event. Because of this mentorship from the faculty, writing is definitely one of my favorite things to teach. Tutoring is all about having a balance- I want my students to feel relaxed and at-ease with the direction of study but also to be productive and engaged in the material. Tutoring is about working together so that he/she can solve it, not me giving the student the answers. Many times students know so much more than they realize, and showing that to them is always the first thing I try to accomplish. I am about pinpointing the problem and making small changes to have the most impact. In my spare time (when I have any :)) I enjoy water sports. I like scuba diving, surfing and just being near any water in general. I also spend my time with an organization called Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE), which reaches out to girls of all ages to promote women in STEM careers. Some highlights of the past year include a Badge Blast with the Girl Scouts, high school demonstrations and taking our members to an archery range. WiSE is about not allowing young girls to sell themselves short and ignoring stereotypes about women.

Approaching math and science problems with optimism and desire for learning are key to developing one's mind and skills. More than helping to understand subjects, my goal in tutoring is to transmit desire for the sciences and passion for learning, which I believe is key to learning in the long run.

I graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Sociology. Later this year, I will be pursuing a Master's of Education at graduate school so that I can become officially certified as a teacher in Arizona. In the summer of 2014, I tutored a 2nd grade girl and a 3rd grade girl in topics ranging from negative numbers, multiplication, and division to synonyms, antonyms, and early essay-writing. I tutor elementary math, a variety of English subjects such as essay editing, grammar, literature, reading, and writing, as well as test prep for lower-level ISEE, elementary-level SSAT, and SAT Verbal. Since my current career dream is to teach English, I like tutoring the English-related topics the most. I particularly enjoy the process of helping students with their essay editing and essay writing. When I teach, my goal is to help the student learn how to do something on their own as effectively as possible without making the learning process unpleasant. My hobbies largely consist of reading and keeping up with a number of television shows. My favorite genre is fantasy, but I also find science fiction and thrillers engaging. I'm quite the geek: I attend Phoenix Comicon every year.

My name is Steven B. Glass, Sr. I have dedicated my life investing in children for over twenty-five years. I believe children are the most precious investment and are the future to keep our country and world strong. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Rust College with a minor in English, which is my best subject. I earned Certification in Special Education from the University of Mississippi.I would love to tutor students in the areas of reading, grammar, writing, and study skills. My teaching philosophy is that I believe that all students can learn if their individual needs are met. I believe in the art and science teaching. As the tutor, I will follow a framework of organized steps to present lessons and they are: prior learning or anticipatory set, presentation of the lesson, guided practice, check for understanding, closure, and independent practice. Then, of course, I will provide solutions to problems with homework.

I am a recent Brown University graduate from Dallas Texas now living in Manhattan. I graduated with honors in political science and have a good mind for standardized tests. I am currently preparing to take the LSAT, so I am in the test taking mindset myself and am excited to help students preparing for the SAT/ACT this summer/fall. In addition to SAT tutoring, I have experience coaching high school debate and am passionate about finding ways to simplify test-taking concepts so that they can become second nature to students approaching the process. I am a strong believer in the notion that standardized test taking is a learnable skill and believe I can effectively help students get into a mindset conducive to their succeeding. My favorite subjects to tutor are test prep and politics/government course work. I am excited to tutor all components of test prep but am particularly passionate about the reading/writing portions, which have always come the most naturally to me.
