Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered organic chemistry, the last topic of general chemistry. We learned how to identify and name organic compounds, including those that contain functional groups. We solved practice questions in the chemistry review for the session. She felt that her recent test on kinetics was "easy.""
"Today, we worked on gas stoichiometry and thermodynamics (especially Hess' Law). The student needs to do a lot more practice problems even though he seems to understand the concepts. We mostly worked on practice problems during our session, and he has made some improvements."
"The student and I covered topics for her final exam tomorrow. The student was very thorough about each topic. We discussed heat, temperature, calorimetry, enthalpy, and phase changes and did problems that related to those concepts."
"We did final the preparations for the student's Lab Practical. We went over rock and mineral identifications. We also covered finding the epicenter with P and S waves. Then, we did more assessment exam questions. We covered deposition, contact metamorphism, half life, unconformities and fossil identification using the reference table."
"Today we started to go over ideas in the upcoming chapter on reflection and refraction. This chapter builds on the things we've been going over in relation to waves, sound and light and the student seemed to have a good grasp on all of that material. He told me his test went well and he felt confident taking it, but hadn't gotten a grade back yet."
"We covered the student's past two exams on substitution reactions, radical reactions, different types of isomers, cis vs trans conformation, chair and Newman projections, and ranking of acidic and stable groups in molecules. The student was appreciative of the material covered today. We talked about future sessions and study tips to use when he retakes the class next semester. I saw the grades he got on the first two exams. These will be used as the foundation to build on in the coming weeks."
