Tutoring review by Jessica in West University Place, TX
The student and I started the session with some multiplication practice (multiplying by 6). She knows this so well now. We then read a short story, and she did a good job sounding out words she didn't know (refrigerator, electricity) and then answered some multiple choice questions. Finally, we finished with some story/word problems. She really enjoys these, and they are a nice challenge for her. We started doing some problems that involve multiplication -- we talked about the different strategies (drawing a picture, repeated addition, and finally multiplication) for these problems. We also did some problems involving larger numbers that include carrying for addition/subtraction. She is amazingly good at that!

To begin, we went through his sight word flashcards. He continues to improve every tutoring session. Then, we learned a new vocabulary word before playing a word game. The student did a great job of giving me definitions for each word. Afterwards, we did some choral reading before he read individually from his novel.

Week 3's assignments were much shorter than the previous week's assignments. The proofs in these two assignments covered some properties of the dihedral groups of order 8 and order 6. Additionally, there were some general questions about the dihedral group of order 2n. In the PW3 assignment, there were some proofs involving showing that a function with some given properties was 1-1 or onto or both. The student showed some improvement on this assignment.
