The student and I prepared for her upcoming test on adjectives describing people and their personalities. We defined the words and used them in sentences. The student seemed to have an excellent grasp of the words, their meanings and their uses.

The student and I had a great time today. I asked her to think of words associated with Christmas and write them down. She came up with about 25 words.  Next we used her list of Christmas (vocab) words to play hangman. I could see it was challenging for her when I was the one guessing the word because she had to correctly count the number of letters, draw the corresponding number of blank spaces, then put the letter in the correct blank when I correctly guessed one. She quickly grasped the concept of the game (she said she had once before played hangman) and it seemed to be an effective and fun learning activity for her. We played back and forth several times. Then she read the 4 page short story, "Hello snow," from the Britannica Children's Story Book. The student read well today though as her reading improves, the content and story and words grow increasingly important and challenging so a goal now is to focus more on her reading comprehension.

The student began a practice critical reading section.  We talked through strategies for focusing during the actual test and then the section she had begun working on.  We discussed the various strategies she's learned so far in review for our final session.  We finished with some vocabulary review.  The student will read through detailed answers for a practice test and review vocab before next week.

Were able to start organizing some concepts for the report.  We reviewed the APA format and talked about how to format the abstract and introduction.  We established the dependent/independent variables.  In our next meeting, the student will be able to make significant progress on the report because he will have the results of the experiment.  For the rest of our time we reviewed some math problems involving exponents/logs.

Tutoring review by Ankita in The Woodlands, TX
Today the student and I met and worked on reading, science, and a little math. His science score right now qualifies him for the center, so we want to maintain that. We will meet again in a couple of weeks, and in the mean time I have asked him to do 2 reading passages and a science passage before we meet again, following the necessary time constraints. Practice, practice, practice!
