How can a GMAT tutor help you?

For students hoping to attend certain graduate business schools, the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a necessary hurdle. The GMAT test scores are used as a standardized means of deciding if a student can perform well in graduate level business school. The test includes four sections: analytical writing, integrated reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning. The exam lasts for three-and-a-half hours total. This exam can be very intense, and preparing for it can overwhelm students. However, Varsity Tutors' educational directors can help you find GMAT tutoring in Houston, Texas, that can help you work towards your goal GMAT score.

The GMAT is a computerized test that evolves as you answer the questions. Depending on your performance on certain questions, future questions you are asked may become harder and harder as you progress. Because of its adaptable nature, this can be a hard test format to know how to prepare for on your own. When you work with a GMAT tutor in Houston, you can be given appropriate practice tests and be taught how to navigate the test with useful testing techniques. One of the trickiest sections of the test can be the data sufficiency questions, which require a good deal of practice to adapt to. Your tutor can provide you with materials and instruction that can explain these tricky questions in a manner that makes sense to you. Data sufficiency, as well as other question types on the exam, may approach information in a way you've never seen before, so it can be beneficial to practice with a knowledgeable tutor who knows how to study for these potential challenges.

GMAT Tutoring review by Mahendra in Houston, TX
We used the same approach as last time when we reviewed some math problems from another test. We also spent time on verbal reviewing sentence correction, critical reading and reading comprehension. I shared some practical tips on sentence correction and critical reading. I also coached the student to approach reading comprehension differently by reading once and taking notes vs. reading and rereading for every question.

Continued to cover GMAT math with the student, focusing on arithmetic today. Topics covered included decimals, percentages, ratios, and compound interest. He reported that he had worked several of the practice assignments from the website I recommended to him yesterday and that it was definitely helping to improve his speed and confidence with basic math. Covered class text up to p. 116. Over the next several days he will continue to work practice problems and assignments.

Did arithmetic, algebra, and geometry problems from a GMAT review book. The student is doing fine; he just needs a little review in geometry, since he hasn't looked at these things since high school. He's up to speed on the arithmetic and algebra. We will meet again on Tuesday.

GMAT Tutoring review by Suzanne in Houston, TX
The student and I decided to do a combination of quantitative and verbal tutoring. We spent half this time covering math concepts like proportions. During the other half, we spent time on the Critical Reasoning section. I laid out different question types used in this section, as well as common wrong answers. We did a number of practice questions for each question format. The student showed noticeable improvement in this section as we moved through it.
