Today was our first session and I worked with the student. The student and I looked at the homework problems requiring us to set up systems of equations and also solving differential equations. With the student, we studied how to find a limit and how to determine whether a function is continuous or discontinuous over its domain. The student made progress in learning how to simplify algebraic expressions and extrapolate information from graphs.

The student is still very early on in her course. All of the assigned problems are online and, in addition to learning concepts, it can be a challenge to learn how to use the web tools. We worked through several problems and I helped her to get better acquainted with how to use the computer tools provided at the homework website.

This session was a relatively short one addressing some problems that the student was having in linear algebra. We mostly tracked the progress of the class in recent lectures, discussing the characteristics of vector spaces, how to determine them, and how they are related to some of the topics that she is working on in discrete mathematics.

Online Linear Algebra Tutoring review by Andrew
Today we spent the full hour and 45 minutes on Linear Algebra. We went over the steps and concepts behind graphing linear inequalities as a way of solving a system of linear equations. We discussed the translation of world problems into mathematical systems of equations, going over constraints, maximization of profit or return, and optimization. A table representation of the system is what proved to help the student the most, modeled after what the professor taught and what was used in the textbook as an example. From the table we made the system of equations and solved for x and y intercepts, graphing the inequalities, fulfilling their > or < constraints, choosing a feasible region ( the area where all equations fulfill the same constraints, and then choosing a feasible point which maximizes profit. This was basically a second way of solving an augmented matrix outside of RREF.

We reviewed her test and went over some problems that she missed. She has a good understanding of the computational aspects of linear algebra. We discussed vector spaces, what identifies them, how to recognize when one is effectively the same as another and the properties of inner products. I wrote a practice test for her to complete in preparation for our next session.

Linear algebra is the study of linear functions and equations. It is a fairly extensive field that is applicable to almost all areas of mathematics. Linear Algebra has a variety of functional purposes, which you can learn more about with your private teacher. Your personal linear algebra tutor can work with you on understanding concepts such as planes, lines, and vector spaces.

Linear algebra is essential for data science and is often known as the "mathematics of data." It can also be useful in engineering and computer science fields. If you're planning on entering a degree program or taking a class in Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Economics, Financial Mathematics, or Computer Graphics, you'll likely be required to have mastered or at least encountered linear algebra concepts. Having a firm grasp of linear algebra could be useful to you no matter what career path you take and also has many real-world applications. Private instruction is an excellent resource to help you grasp the various skills and concepts more thoroughly. If you'd like to know more about how private instruction can benefit you, keep reading.

What content or skills can I review with a private linear algebra tutor?

Understanding linear algebra is beneficial in many ways. As such, when taking a Linear Algebra course, you'll want to use every resource available to master it. If you're just getting started in a Linear Algebra course or you're having a hard time with the more advanced material, a private instructor can provide supplemental lessons to help you.

Perhaps you're having a hard time understanding vectors and vector spaces. Your instructor can help you with guided practice opportunities until you can handle these types of questions with ease. You can also receive assistance in understanding more about subspaces. Additionally, your private linear algebra coach can help you work on determining the determinants or inverses of various matrices. If you're struggling to understand how to use Gaussian elimination to solve systems of linear equations, your instructor can walk you through this process step by step, allowing you to ask questions along the way. You can also ask questions about linear equations and linear transformations. Additionally, if you are having difficulty with matrix decompositions, you can ask for help understanding Cholesky, LU, QR, and Polar decomposition. Linear algebra tutors can also assist you with mastering projective transformation, geometry, and linear groups.

This is only a small sampling of the topics you can go over with your private linear algebra coach. Whether you want an instructor to assist you throughout your entire course or simply need help understanding just one of these concepts, Varsity Tutors is here to support you in reaching for your academic goals. Studying doesn't need to be an isolating or frustrating experience. A private teacher can help you work on these specific skills, improve your study habits, and help you gain confidence in your own abilities.

How is private linear algebra tutoring different than other educational environments?

When you sign up for linear algebra tutoring, you'll be able to experience the type of one-on-one instruction that is typically hard to find in a traditional classroom setting. In normal classrooms, instructors must keep a large number of students and their needs in mind. Even in the classes with unusually small student-teacher ratios, it can be hard to receive the kind of individual attention you may need when studying complex linear algebra concepts. When you work with a private teacher, you are the only student your teacher needs to worry about. This means your teacher can focus on your precise goals when planning study sessions.

A private teacher has the opportunity to get really get to know your personality, interests, and goals. He or she can also take time to determine your academic areas of strength, the concepts in which you may need extra help, and the learning method you prefer. This information gives your instructor the ability to create customized lesson plans that are best suited to help you pursue your goals. With the knowledge of your preferred learning style, your teacher can deliver lessons in the approach that makes the most sense to you. For example, if you are a kinesthetic learner, your instructor can make sure to give you lots of opportunity for hands-on practice. If you're an auditory learner, your instructor can give you mnemonic devices or utilize a lecture style for your lessons. Visual learners can be assigned supplemental linear algebra videos to watch or can spend extra time watching the instructor work through various types of problems. Having the opportunity to learn using the method you prefer is unlikely in a classroom where the teacher must focus on other students as well.

Another benefit of working with knowledgeable linear algebra tutors is the ability to work at your own pace. In a traditional class, teachers must teach content, provide practice opportunities, and assess your skills within a predetermined time frame. Students who learn more slowly may find themselves falling behind. Students who are learning more quickly than their peers can become bored form not feeling challenged in class. There is no opportunity to speed lessons up, spend extra time on difficult concepts, or skip over skills you already know. Working with a private teacher gives you the opportunity to do any of these things. If you have mastered determinants quickly, you don't need to spend any more time focusing on this material. Instead, you can move onto new topics, such as linear transformations. This means you can master the material and feel confident when you go into your class to take quizzes or exams. Feeling confident when you take tests can make a huge difference in your performance. If you're prepping for a quiz or test, your teacher can help make you didn't forget you have studied and reviewed all the right content.

Another benefit of working with a private linear algebra teacher is the amount of flexibility when it comes to fitting it into your schedule. Thanks to Varsity Tutors, you're able to choose between two different options, both of which make it simple and convenient to fit private instruction into your already busy life. You can either choose to meet with your private teacher online or elect to meet with him or her in person.

This platform allows you to take advantage of live face-to-face sessions anywhere you can find high-speed internet and a computer. This can bring private education to your favorite place to study. Using the Live Learning Platform also gives you the ability to work with teachers who may not be in your area. If you live in a small town, finding a good linear algebra tutor may be difficult. With online private instruction, you can engage in face-to-face lessons plans that allow you to speak to, see, and hear teachers around the country.

When you elect to meet with your personal linear algebra instructor in person, Varsity Tutors will do everything in our power to connect you to a teacher who can work within your established schedule.
