The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is administered by private and parochial high schools. It is taken by students in eighth grade and plays a role in the admissions process to private and parochial high schools. The test consists of 300 questions and takes two and a half hours to complete.
The HSPT traditionally consists of five different sections. These include reading, verbal skills, math, quantitative skills, and language. The reading section focuses on vocabulary and reading comprehension. The verbal skills section consists of synonyms, analogies, antonyms, logic, and verbal classification. The math section has questions concerning geometry, arithmetic, and algebra. The quantitative section expands upon the math section by adding geometry numbers and geometric and non-geometric comparisons. Finally, the language section places an emphasis on capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

If these additional sections are on your child's test, they will receive additional time to complete them. The HSPT covers a large amount of information.
