Geometry Tutoring review by Arianna in Norridge, IL
We began our session by going over the most recent test she received back. We spent time reviewing the new material her class is covering (perpendicular and angle bisectors). We have scheduled more sessions than normal this week because she is feeling slightly overwhelmed with the new material. On Wednesday we are meeting again and have added a half hour to our normal session duration. Then we will meet again on Sunday. I also spent a brief amount of time discussing a very specific study schedule with her for her next test.

Geometry Tutoring review by Austin in Norridge, IL
We spent our first few minutes talking about the importance of submitting assignments on time. We walked through an exercise where he theoretically got two grades of 100 then forgot to turn in an assignment and was awarded a 0. We then averaged the grades, and he was able to see that he had a combined average of 67%. It seemed this was one of the first times he had considered the true grade-lowering effect of turning in assignments late or not at all. After that, we developed a new strategy for his agenda where he now writes the assignment on the night that he receives it then also writes "Due" and the assignment name on the day it is due. For the "due" assignments, these are highlighted in color and receive a check mark once he has turned them into the teacher. He seemed to like this way of organizing his assignments and said it should help him remember what to turn in when. Additionally, we corrected an assignment on rotation, completed his note cards for his vocabulary for geometry, finished a biology review assignment, and outlined his "career exploration" paper that he needs to write tonight. We mapped out that he needed to complete his 3D cell design and paper tonight and a review packed for US history on Tuesday night before we meet on Wednesday. Looking at his grades online, his teachers have given him partial credit for assignments we completed last week after he had forgotten to turn them in, boosting his overall scores in biology and geometry. Hopefully, with the new structuring of the agenda and closer monitoring on his part about his assignment due dates, his grades in biology and geometry will return to the As and Bs he was making.

Geometry Tutoring review by Tiffany in Norridge, IL
Today, the student had a worksheet which utilized properties of secant and tangent lines in order to determine angle and arc measures. We found the formulas online. With the formulas, she did not have any difficulty. The most difficult problems required her to create an inscribed quadrilateral in order to determine the arc or angle measures. She soon realized that, when given two tangent lines, she could subtract the given angle from 180 in order to determine the other angle (short cut). She has a good understanding of this material. After she completed her homework, I gave her a 'cheat sheet' on 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles. Some of her previous problems have required these ratios in order to solve the problem. I left her with a worksheet that has 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles. Overall, today was a productive session.

Geometry Tutoring review by Margaret in Norridge, IL
The student and I covered special triangles today - 30/60/90 and 45/45/90. We went over her homework, and she did all types of problems. By the end, she had a great grasp of the material. The trick for her will be remembering the rules of these triangles without notes.

Geometry Tutoring review by Charisse in Norridge, IL
The student has a test tomorrow on geometric mean, trigonometry, special right triangles, and angles of elevation and depression. She was struggling most with geometric mean, so we went over that first, until she had a better understanding. We then briefly went over trigonometry and special right triangles, then moved to word problems associated with angles of elevation and depression. Then we reviewed geometric mean and angles of elevation and depression again. She was very attentive and wanted to be sure of her answers. My recommendation is to slow down, take her time, and look over her answers when she has time. I am confident in her knowledge of trigonometry and special right triangles. She needs more work on geometric mean and angles of elevation and depression. We'll work on that in our next session.
