Stockton CLEP Humanities Tutoring FAQ
As with all of the exams in the College Level Examination Program, the CLEP Humanities test is designed to assess all of the material that would be covered in a normal college-level introductory class. The test's massive scope is its advantage, as it can give a test-taker six credits for college courses after just a 90-minute exam. Humanities is such a broad subject, though, that the CLEP Humanities exam might be the subject in the CLEP program that covers the most material. Greek drama, Medieval philosophy, ancient Hindu poetry, Baroque music, Mesoamerican architecture, Modernist novels, and Cubist paintings are all subjects that may be asked about on the CLEP Humanities exam. The exam further challenges test-takers' knowledge by presenting the material in a non-chronological and non-thematic order.
Additionally, while the CLEP Humanities test is a multiple-choice exam, traditional test-taking strategies may not go very far because of its board scope. The CLEP Humanities exam is essentially a test of knowledge about art, literature, and philosophy that covers a time span of approximately 3,000 years and a geographic perspective that covers the entire globe. Studying for this exam involves reviewing a significant amount of material.
Even if you are an expert in literature, you will have to study music and philosophy, as well as any literary movements with which you are unfamiliar. You need to memorize dates, works, artists, movements, and themes from works of art and literature you may have never before encountered. The personal assistance of a private tutor can help you work out the difference between Baroque and Rococo, or the distinction between Cubism and Abstract Expressionism. Contact Varsity Tutors today and let us help connect you to a CLEP Humanities tutor.
Tutors are gifted educators who know all of the ins and outs of the CLEP Humanities exam, and are knowledgeable about the many different subjects that the test covers. CLEP Humanities tutoring can help you face this wide range of subjects in a manageable way, as your tutor can develop a curriculum just for you based on your particular strengths, weaknesses, and concerns. Many students are unsure of the best way to study. Once your private tutor has identified your strengths and weaknesses, they can help you develop a study plan that will take advantage of the areas where you excel. So whether you learn best through diagrams, repetition, mental associations, notecards, or speaking out loud, your tutor can help you study in a way that will be most effective for you.
Your tutor can review the important composers of the Classical era if you are not familiar with the history of Western music, or they can drill you on important Modernist authors if you are not a literary type. Your CLEP Humanities tutoring can follow a path specially designed to help you gain the specific skills and knowledge you need in order to excel on test day. Additionally, your tutor can help you develop helpful study skills such as time management. They can give you insight on the types of questions you are likely to face and how much time you should be spending on each kind of question. This is very beneficial because it can help you make sure that you have enough time to answer every question.
Varsity Tutors' live learning platform allows you to meet with your private tutor either in person or face-to-face online through our live learning platform. We focused on the students fast approaching application deadline for his new school (7/23) and began crafting his application essay. The prompt: If you could meet any leader or historical figure, who would you meet and why?
We also went over the basics of the SSAT and the SAT and how to craft the essays for those particular tests. He will be taking the SSAT on 7/25
- The student did very well on assigned section, only 2 wrong in Math, 2 in Critical Reading, 1? in Writing.
- Assigned the rest of practice test 2 in the blue book for Monday.
- Also sent more SAT prep via e-mail, such as links PWN the SAT blog
The student and I reviewed the sections that he completed, then continued on with some prompt-work, because he is still having some trouble coming up with examples for his essays. He is getting better. He has improved a lot on all of the subjects. At this point, we will basically need to focus on the essay to make sure that when he gets to test day, he will be able to quickly think of examples and use them accordingly.
The student took the first language arts entry test. We went over each question and the concepts related to each question. He seemed a little overwhelmed by the test at first but grasped the concepts quickly and already showed significant improvements in comprehension by the end of the session.
The student and I spent half our time on math and half on science. Her accuracy is improving drastically. After a few more sessions we are going to really start working on the timing. We should be able to get her score drastically improved after we get both these elements in sync.
Today the student and I did a general overview of the admissions test and different strategies for each section. She has already taken the preliminary admissions test, so I reviewed her results from that and we decided to focus especially on the reading passages and the math overall. Since taking the preliminary test, she has had more of the math covered on the test, so she did much better than the test indicated when we did practice problems today. She excelled in the English section, getting every answer correct. We discussed breaking down the reading passages to make them more manageable and focused on reading the questions first for the shorter passages.
