In 2011 I received my Masters Degree in International Development from Tulane University. I did my undergraduate work at Oral Roberts University, and I received a BA in Communications and a Minor in Spanish. I have been teaching at the K-8 level for the past eleven years, teaching a variety of subjects from English to Math to Social Studies. This upcoming school year I will be tackling a new challenge--teaching Jr. High Spanish. I am currently Highly Qualified in Spanish and looking forward to helping others become bilingual.I have had the privilege of teaching at public, private and charter schools, including a two-year stint in the Dominican Republic. Because I have seen so many different educational strategies and philosophies at work, I am able to glean the best techniques from each strategy and implement them in my teaching/tutoring. I am an advocate of the Love & Logic philosophy of classroom management, and I am a firm believer that each student must be treated as an individual. I strive to find the strategy that works best for each student, realizing that there are many different kinds of learning styles. I am happily married, own two dogs, and I love to play sports, hike, travel (I've been to Asia, Central & South America, and Africa) and read articles about theology and the international economic arena. In 2010 I was accepted into a program at Oxford University in London. Due to family reasons, I was unable to attend, but I hope to one day fulfill my dream of either earning my PhD from Tulane or studying at Oxford. I look forward to helping your child fulfill his/her educational dream.

I am a former teacher who loves learning and seeing students learn things they never thought they could learn. I have lived in KC for almost 4 years and am really falling in love with the city.I taught high school Spanish 1 for two years and taught theater for three years. My teaching style is structured, but fun. I am firm believer in practicing as much as possible and getting friends and family in on your learning. I use power points, props, videos, games, and whatever else I can find to make sure that every student is learning according to their learning style.
I have been in the education field for over 15 years. I love assisting others of all ages in exploring and expanding their learning capacity, which in turn, enriches the quality of their lives. My biggest joy as a teacher is seeing someone come to a full understanding of a concept they could not grasp before. Helping the learner reach those "a-ha" moments is what a teacher does!
I am a master's student who is passionate about education and helping others learn. I am striving to be a college professor one day and enjoy breaking down complex ideas and concepts in order to make them understandable for anyone. I also love working with people and making new friends!
I have a masters in international and multicultural education. I am extremely passionate about teaching students english, writing, and study skills/habits. I was a first generation college student who was a self-taught scholar and academic. I worked as an academic success coach, paraprofessional educator, and early childhood educator. My experience teaching and being an educational practitioner is varied and unique. im excited to continue my work via varsity tutors. My teaching and tutoring style is deeply dependent upon intentional relationship building so that my pedagogy is unique to whomever i am tutoring/teaching. I love roller skating, coding, writing, and reading.
I enjoy helping others be their best!
I plan for many exciting opportunities for the children to ensure they are stimulated and interested in what they are being taught. During lessons, I guarantee that my plans contain activities which cater to all learning styles."Those who know, do. Those that understand teach."Aristotle
Students making an effort to thrive in rigorous academic environments often need support at some point in their journey. It has been my pleasure to offer that support in several roles for over 10 years. I have taught middle and high school math and science in the public system. I have also spent years working with students on the autism spectrum and currently care for an ASD student 4 days a week. One-on-one tutoring and academic coaching are my callings and my joy. I have tutored both premed undergraduate students and medical students. As a medical doctor by training, I have both academic and clinical experience that allows me to offer intense science tutoring to students on the road to STEM careers, and to all students trying to complete science related requirements for other academic or career goals.
I graduated summa cum laude from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK with a B.S. in Biology and minors in Spanish and Biochemistry. I will be starting medical school in the fall and have extra time this semester. I have tutored extensively in the Sciences and Mathematics but am also willing to work with Spanish students and test prep, including the ACT, SAT and MCAT. I have always performed very well on standardized tests and am eager to share my tricks with other students. I have tutored elementary, middle school, high school, and college-aged students in a variety of subjects and settings. I explain complicated topics in a simplified way with real-world examples and make sure the students feel confident in their mastery of the subject before we move on. I am excited to help anyone who might need it!
My goal is to find the most effective teaching method for each student, to help them to enjoy learning more, by finding out what they have a passion about, and help them to engage in the subjects you choose. Recent Teaching and Tutoring: I have taught in K to 6th grade in Public Schools, Private Preschools, taught online at Epic Charter Schools, and tutored many students for many years. I help my students improve their test scores by teaching phonics sounds, sight words, and fluency, This includes: accuracy, rate, expression, and comprehension. In math I demonstrate step by step, then ask them to try it with help. I love to help students, by seeing when they experience that "Light Bulb Moment," where I can see that they understand! My experience has taught me how to help students learn the objectives for each grade level to build on each other, to gain success. My Teaching Style: I include a variety of strategies, starting with modeling and guiding the students through the skill, followed by practice and checking to ensure understanding. A song may be used to review, or I create slideshows and videos to help visualize and review concepts. My creative approach helps to engage students, and helps my students to look forward to discovering new ideas. I teach study skills, practice, and review techniques to help students develop a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Experience: I graduated from ORU, with degrees in Early Childhood, and Elementary Education, with a Bachelor's of Science. I also have over 48 classes towards a Reading Specialist, also. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family. I have been married for 29 years, have 4 children from ages 16 to 24. I look forward to meeting you!
My name is Kenya McKinney, I have been teaching for 9 years, I have a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Math Education from Oral Roberts University. I love math, puzzles, cooking and movies. Math hasn't always come easy to me, but I have learned to push through it and think about it in different ways to help me understand it, and I hope I can do the same for you.
Hello! My name is Betsy Barron, and I am so excited to help you find your voice. I've spent the last decade in Tribal public health, but my greatest 'secret weapon' has always been writing. In fact, I've won hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships, including the Gates Millennium Scholarship and the Udall Native American Graduate Fellowship, primarily because I learned how to master the art of storytelling. As a doctoral student, I know that even the most complex topics need a clear narrative. Writing is a tool you can use creatively, defensively, and professionally. My goal is to help you build a foundation that serves you for the rest of your career. In our sessions, we'll use an iterative editing process. I won't just give you corrections; I'll give you the 'why' behind every strategy so you can grow as an independent writer. Often, your writing is the only first impression a school or an employer gets of youlet's work together to make sure it's a great one. Book a session with me today, and let's get to writing!
