CLEP Natural Sciences Tutoring FAQ
Almost every student has found themselves falling asleep in a class, questioning why they are even there. You may have had a similar experience where you wondered why you needed to study material that you had already mastered. General education requirements, major requirements, or prerequisites can all mean that you end up forced to take a class on material that you know inside and out from previous studies and practical exposure. The College Board offers an alternative to sitting through an entire semester of material you already know. It's called the College Level Examination Program, or CLEP. The Natural Sciences CLEP is designed for students who may need science core requirement credits, but already know the essential concepts of a natural science curriculum. While you may know the material, passing the test can be a different challenge. Just mastering the concepts of natural science is not enough. You must also be a skilled test-taker to be assured of success. A CLEP Natural Sciences tutor may be the best answer to fine-tuning your test-taking skills and knowledge.
Considering the time and stress caused by the CLEP Natural Sciences exam, you don't want to risk a subpar performance by building your preparation program around generic internet resources or mass-market review books. Instead, consider personal CLEP Natural Sciences tutoring. Varsity Tutors can help connect you with an experienced tutor in your area. CLEP Natural Sciences tutors have experience in dealing with the exam itself, including both the material tested and the format in which content is presented. They have taken the test themselves and excelled, making them valuable resources for any student. These independent instructors have been screened by our educational directors to ensure their ability to communicate challenging and abstract ideas is well-developed. Your tutor can offer you a customized and individual course of instruction that has far more impact than any generic resource available.
You might be shocked at how quickly you may develop the skills you need to ace the CLEP exam while working through a customized CLEP Natural Sciences tutoring program. Avoiding college courses with content you have already mastered opens up an enormous new world of opportunity to you. You can take on an internship or an advanced course, and impress potential employers or graduate schools with the diversity of your experience. It all starts with an assessment, so your tutor can get to know your strengths and weaknesses. They can then structure each lesson according to the topics you could use more work on. Even more than content instruction, they will teach you the lessons they've learned in mastering the test format, which is just as important as knowing the material.
Each tutor is also flexible, adapting not only the content of each lesson, but also the time and place it happens. Whether your schedule changes frequently, or you have many classes and activities to consider, or would rather study at home or in a library, your instructor can accommodate your requests. You can even request face-to-face online sessions using our live learning platform. These tutors are devoted to ensuring your time is well-spent, and you are on the path to being prepared when you step into the exam room. The investment of your time into CLEP Natural Sciences tutoring and preparation can pay off enormously because of these opportunities. Don't risk your preparation, however, to just any prepackaged, traditional resource. Contact Varsity Tutors, and our educational directors will get you connected with a private CLEP Natural Sciences tutor! These dedicated, independent tutors are flexible, patient, and ready to do whatever it takes to get you prepared for the CLEP.

Worked with the student on Rhetorical Skills in English. She performed well. We also finished the Plane Geometry section. Covered 2 Reading passages and a few science graphs and charts.
The student and I first spent some time on the reading section, where he had done really well on the first three passages. He did well on the third section by skimming and then looking selectively for answers, so I think this is the strategy to pursue. We tried it on the last section and he did pretty well, although he still needs to improve his pace. On math, we chunked a practice test into 10-minute increments. He should be working more than 10 problems in the first 10 minutes as those are the simpler problems, and that allows for more time to be spent on more difficult problems. He completed about 30 problems (half the test) in 20 minutes. The challenge will be to keep a quick pace without sacrificing accuracy.
The student completed the first practice test for homework and did well overall. She answered between 70% and 80% of the questions correctly in the English, reading, and science sections which equate to high 20s to low 30s in scaled score. We focused on the math questions from her homework and from the second test. With a few adjustments and a little experience, she will quickly show improvement because she will recognize the key features that generally appear in the correct answers. She should also become more consistent in the science section with practice. I'm optimistic because she has the critical thinking skills necessary for answering the hardest questions.
Discussed the student's goals and what she would like to work on, as well as how she would like to use her tutoring sessions. We talked about certain strategies for the reading passages and grammar rules. She worked on an English section and a reading section and we went over them together.
The student seems to be doing better since our last session on Friday. Her ACT scores are up on the most recent practice test that I've had her work through, and I'm hopeful that if she begins to do all the assigned homework each week that she'll be in a good place to do well on the ACT in the fall.
Today the student and I reviewed her ACT essay she had completed for our session. We talked about how she could be more specific and offer more clear examples in her writing to take her to the next level. She will complete another essay for us to go over next time. We focused on the reading and science sections today as well. She has improved greatly in her reading. She did very well in science and today we highlighted the strategies for the order to take the science section as well as how to approach the different types of passages.
