Algebra Tutoring review by Wan Wen (Jovana) in Munster, IN
I reviewed the basic rules of algebra with her regarding the addition/subtraction/multiplication/division of fraction radicals. I demonstrated the similar problems for her, then had her solve the problems in her homework set. By the end of the session, she was able to finish all her homework problems correctly.

Algebra Tutoring review by Steven in Munster, IN
The student's pacing has improved well; it shows in his problem solving. I discussed this with him and said that his ability to take a step back when getting on a problem has gotten much better. Because of this he is able to figure out the solutions to problems more independently than in the beginning of the year. This includes the material he seems least comfortable with, especially square roots. And as a result of this improvement, he is additionally able to find the answer quicker, though this doesn't mean I will not continue to work with him so as to help him better in these ways even further. For most of our session we reviewed his algebra homework his teacher assigned for the week. Part one of his homework dealt with systems of inequalities (less than or greater than relationships), in conjunction with different notations for solutions of these systems of inequalities. It took a few problems to help jog his memory on how to approach these problems. But he is sufficiently capable at solving these inequalities just like equations; systems of inequalities deal with concepts behind numbers as well so I think with respect to these concepts he will need to get more comfortable via more recitation. This can be said just as well for solution notations, these acting more conceptually than the rest of the problems. And part two of his homework dealt with basic algebra he should have learned before this class, which shows on account of his independence and capability at handling those problems. As a result, he had a much easier time completing part two over part one. After his homework had been finished, I asked him to complete a few more systems of inequalities problems so he gets into the habit of dealing with numbers more conceptually than usual. Aside from these systems of inequalities I also gave him a few problems incorporating square roots. I did this to refresh his memories on this subject. I will keep giving him practice to complete based on square roots and former material so he doesn't lose sight of how to solve those problems. His class may move on, but they will eventually come back to that material come his final exam. In addition, square roots are still his biggest weakness. I told him that I will email him a couple of practice problem sets that he can complete, perhaps to use to study before his next exam or simply for general recitation.

Algebra Tutoring review by Kelie in Munster, IN
Today we discussed finding the greatest common factor and complete factorization of polynomials. The student did really well with this, and he didn't have any issues at all. We did quite a few practice problems in his workbook, and he was able to correctly answer all of them with minimal help. For homework I asked him to try the word problems from the workbook, and do three or four of the practice problems I assigned. In science we started talking about forming, writing, and naming compounds. This was kind of a difficult subject for the student, and we didn't get all the way through the section (we only talked about ionic compounds). We went over the material a couple of times, and he seemed to have at least a tentative grasp on the material by the end. I looked over his section 2 review, and he correctly answered about half of it. I'm going to go over the stuff he missed tomorrow.
